Composer Jongnic Bontemps (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Redfall, Boots, My Name Is Pauli Murray, The Gates, 4400, Madea’s Destination Wedding, Wedding Season, United Skates, World’s Best) is reuniting with director Lynn Novick (The Vietnam War, Hemingway) on the upcoming PBS documentary Crime and Punishment in America. The show is directed by Novick, narrated by Keith David and explores the history of criminal justice in America – from the pre-colonial period to 21st century mass incarceration. The 4-part/8-hour series features the voices of Samuel L. Jackson, Laura Linney, Matthew Rhys, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Stuhlbarg, David Hyde Pierce & BD Wong and offers a comprehensive examination of how the intertwined forces of law, power, race, and class have both shaped and reflected the American experience over four centuries.

Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the romantic drama Reminders of Him directed by Vanessa Caswill and starring Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, Rudy Pankow, Bradley Whitford, Lainey Wilson and Lauren Graham. The film’s original score is composed by Tom Howe (Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Knuckles, Dog Man, Daisy Jones & the Six, A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Early Man, Book Club: The New Chapter). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as an original song by Noah Cyrus and another song by Morgan Harper-Jones today. Also opening wide is the Canadian horror feature Undertone written and directed by Ian Tuason and starring Nina Kiri, Adam DiMarco, Michèle Duquet, Jeff Yung and Keana Lyn Bastidas. The movie, which follows the host of a popular paranormal podcast who becomes haunted by terrifying recordings mysteriously sent her way, premiered at last year’s Fantasia International Film Festival and is being distributed by A24.

The film is written and directed by John Burr (Muse) and stars Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, Keith Powers and James Van Der Beek. The movie follows three college students on a road trip gone wrong, as the three young men take an ill-advised shortcut through a remote gated community, where they find themselves trapped behind the walls after witnessing a murder.

Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Boots. The 2-parter, which follows politician-turned-journalist Brian Walden and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher as they sit for one of the most famous political exchanges of all time in 1989, premiered in the UK this past January on Channel 4 and is making its U.S. debut on PBS as part of Masterpiece.
Also premiering tonight is the PBS Masterpiece series Maigret developed by Patrick Harbinson based on Georges Simenon’s bestselling novels and starring Benjamin Wainwright, Stefanie Martini, Blake Harrison, Kerrie Hayes, Reda Elazouar, Shaniqua Okwok, Rob Kazinsky and Nathalie Armin. Uele Lamore (The Balconettes, The Apology, Above Water) has composed the show’s original music. The crime drama, which follows the Chief Inspecto and his team of maverick but loyal detectives as they solve a series of complex crimes in Paris, will air in the U.S. every Sunday night on PBS.

Music That Inspired the ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ Score to Be Released
Milan Records will release a new soundtrack album for the action adventure Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. The album features eight previously unreleased tracks (described as “music that inspired the score”) composed by Jongnic Bontemps (Redfall, 4400, My Name Is Pauli Murray, United Skates, World’s Best, Wedding Season).
