A couple of new TV shows are premiering this week:

Premiering on October 16 is the CW drama Emily Owens, M.D. created by Jennie Snyder Urman (Something Borrowed) and starring Mamie Gummer, Justin Hartley, Michael Rady, Aja Naomi King, Kelly McCreary and Necar Zadegan. The show’s score is composed by Jim Dooley (Pushing Daisies, When a Stranger Calls). The series follows a newly minted doctor looking for a fresh start in the adult professional world, who discovers that life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school. Jim Dooley to Score the CW’s ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’

Jim Dooley will be scoring the new CW drama Emily Owens, M.D.. The show stars Mamie Gummer (daughter of Meryl Streep) in the title role, alongside Justin Hartley, Michael Rady, Aja Naomi King, Kelly McCreary and Necar Zadegan. The series, which was previously entitled First Cut, follows a newly minted doctor who, glad to leave her past behind for a fresh start in the adult professional world, discovers that life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school. Jennie Snyder Urman (90210, Something Borrowed), Dan Jinks (American Beauty, Milk) and Bharat Nalluri (Tsunami) are executive producing the CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television production.

Jim Dooley to Score Bryan Fuller’s ‘Hannibal’

Jim Dooley revealed at the film composer panel Behind the Music: Composing for WonderCon’s Favorite Projects at the WonderCon 2012 earlier this month that he will be scoring the upcoming TV drama Hannibal. The series is created and executive produced by Bryan Fuller who previously worked with the composer on the critically acclaimed show Pushing Daisies, for which Dooley has received an Emmy Award. The Hannibal TV show is based on the iconic literary and film character Hannnibal Lector created by Thomas Harris and centers on the character’s budding relationship with FBI agent Will Graham. Hugh Dancy has been cast as Graham who was played by Edward Norton in 2002’s Red Dragon. No word yet on who will portray the title character. Martha De Laurentiis who produced the film versions of Hannibal, Red Dragon and Hannibal Rising is an executive producer on the project.

2011 Summer Television Music Roundup (Part 2)

In our second part of this summer’s roundup of television scores, we’re taking a look at the new and returning shows on FX, ABC Family and Starz. Also visit our previous article featuring shows on ABC, NBC, CBS, USA and Showtime.

FX:

The only new show this summer on FX is the comedy Wilfred. The show stars Elijah Wood as a depressed and unemployed worker who imagines seeing a man in a dog costume. Jason Gann and Fiona Gubelmann are co-starring and guest stars include Ed Helms, Chris Klein and Rashida Jones. Jim Dooley (Pushing Daisies, Obsessed) is providing the score for the show. Wilfred is based on an Australian series with the same title and is adapted by David Zuckerman (Family Guy, American Dad). Randall Einhorn (The Office, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) directed the pilot. The show’s first season of 13 episodes is currently airing every Thursday night on FX.

New Video Game Soundtracks by John Debney, Brian Reitzell and Jim Dooley released

A couple of new video game soundtracks composed by some prominent film and TV composers have recently been announced. Coming out next week is the second volume for John Debney’s music for The Sims Medieval. The soundtrack features eight new score tracks by the composer and will be released on June 7 by Electronic Arts Recordings. To download the album, visit Amazon and check out the audio clips below. The first volume has been released in April and is also available to download on Amazon. The Sims Medieval is based on The Sims 3 Engine and is set in medieval times. The game allows the player to build a kingdom through quest-driven gameplay. The project marks Debney’s second score for a major video game title after his critically acclaimed music for 2007’s Lair.

Jim Dooley to Score ‘Poe’

Jim Dooley is writing the music for the TV drama pilot Poe. The show follows Edgar Allan Poe, the world’s very first detective, as he uses unconventional methods to investigate dark mysteries in 1840s Boston. Poe stars Chris Egan in the title role, Natalie Dormer, Kevin McNally and Leslie Odom. The pilot is written by Christopher Hollier (Kyle XY) and directed by Alex Graves (Terra Nova, Fringe). Dan Lin (Sherlock Homes) is producing through his Lin Productions company and Brad Kern (Human Target, Charmed) has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner. ABC is expected to make a decision if the show gets picked up for next TV season in May.

‘Pushing Daisies’ Season 2 Sountrack album coming

Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the upcoming soundtrack release for the second season of the TV Show Pushing Daisies. The album features highlights from Jim Dooley’s score of the second season of the critically acclaimed show. The soundtrack will be released on April 5, 2011. A first volume with music from the first season was released back in 2008 and is also available on Varese Sarabande Records.
