Marco Beltrami & Brandon Roberts have won their first Emmy Award in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special category for their score for National Geographic’s Free Solo at tonight’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards. In the Music & Lyrics category, Rachel Bloom, Adam Schlesinger and Jack Dolgen received the prize for the original song Antidepressants Are So Not A Big Deal from the episode I Have To Get Out of The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. In the Outstanding Music Direction category, Alex Lacamoire was honored for his work on the FX original series Fosse/Verdon.

Soundtrack Album for National Geographic’s ‘Free Solo’ to Be Released
Node Records will release a soundtrack album for the National Geographic documentary Free Solo. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Marco Beltrami (Logan, Scream, 3:10 to Yuma, The Hurt Locker, World War Z). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, November 9 and will be available to download on Amazon. Free Solo is directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi & Jimmy Chin and follows solo climber Alex Honnold, as he prepares to achieve his lifelong dream: scaling the face of the world’s most famous rock – the 3,200-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park – without a rope.

Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated feature Smallfoot directed by Karey Kirkpatrick and starring Channing Tatum, Zendaya, James Corden, Common, LeBron James, Gina Rodriguez, Danny DeVito and Yara Shahidi. The director and Wayne Kirkpatrick have composed the film’s original songs and Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Angry Birds Movie) has composed the film’s original score. Also opening wide is the horror thriller Hell Fest directed by Gregory Plotkin and starring Amy Forsyth, Reign Edwards, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Christian James, Roby Attal, Matt Mercurio and Tony Todd. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, Happy Death Day). Sparks & Shadows has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as tracks by Brendan McKian, John Massari and Crisis Couture. Marco Beltrami Scoring National Geographic’s ‘Free Solo’
Marco Beltrami is composing the music for the upcoming National Geographic documentary Free Solo. The film is directed by Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (Meru) and revolves around rock climber Alex Honnold as he is training on Freerider for the first ever rope-free climb of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Chin & Chai Vasarhelyi are also producing the project with Evan Hayes, Walter Parkes & Laurie MacDonald (Men in Black, The Ring, Flight) and Shannon Dill.
