Jeff Danna has taken over scoring duties on the crime drama The Convincer. He is replacing Alex Wurman who had completed a score for the film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The movie is directed by Jill Sprecher (Thirteen Conversations on One Thing) and stars Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin, Billy Crudup and Lea Thompson. The film follows a desperate insurance salesman whose scheme to get a hold of a rare violin leads to unforeseen consequences. Deadline reported in March that ATO Pictures is a wrapping up a domestic distribution deal for the drama, but no announcement has been made since and The Convincer is still awaiting a release date.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (May 6, 2011)
Three new movies are opening nationwide and this weekend:
The comic book adaptation Thor directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Rene Russo and Stellan Skarsgaard is expected to top the weekend box office. Patrick Doyle has composed the score for the film and a soundtrack has been released on Buena Vista Records. Check out our announcement for details on the album and audio clips. Also opening wide is the comedy Jumping the Broom directed by Salim Akil and starring Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine, Mike Epps and Julie Bowen. Edward Shearmur composed the film’s score and a soundtrack with both score and songs from the film has been released earlier this week by Madison Gate Records. Weekly Film Music Roundup (February 18, 2011)
Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The teen sci-fi action movie I Am Number Four directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Alex Pettyfer, Dianne Agron, Timothy Olyphant and Teresa Palmer features a score by Trevor Rabin, as well as many songs from such artists as Beck, Kings of Leons and The Black Keys. No soundtrack album has been announced for the Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg-produced movie. There is about 45 minutes of Rabin’s score in the film, which would make a soundtrack release a definite possibility. Check back on this site if an announcement will be made.
Also opening is the mystery thriller Unknown directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson, January Jones, Diane Kruger, Frank Langella and Aidan Quinn. The music for the Joel Silver-produced movie is written by John Ottman and Alexander Rudd. Alex Wurman scoring ‘Something Borrowed’
Film Music Reporter has learned that Alex Wurman is the composer of the upcoming romantic comedy Something Borrowed. The movie centers around a Manhattan attorney who becomes involved with her best friend’s fiance following her 30th birthday. The film is an adaptation of the first in a series of novels from Emily Giffin and is directed by Luke Greenfield who has previously worked with composers Paul Haslinger on The Girl Next Door and Teddy Castellucci on The Animal. Something Borrowed stars Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, John Krasinski and Colin Egglesfield.
‘The Last Lions’ to feature music by Alex Wurman
Alex Wurman has recently finished scoring the National Geographic Entertainment-produced documentary The Last Lions. In the movie, filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert follow the epic journey of the lioness named Ma di Tau (“Mother of Lions”) as she battles to protect her cubs against the daunting onslaught of enemies to ensure their survival. The documentary is narrated by Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons. The Last Lions marks Wurman’s first documentary after scoring the Oscar-winning 2005 hit The March of the Penguins. The movie recently premiered at the Palm Springs Film Festival and is slated to be released on February 18 in select cities. Check out the film’s trailer below.
Wurman scores The Switch
Alex Wurman recently recorded his score for the upcoming romantic comedy The Switch with the Carondelet Film Orchestra in New Orleans. The movie previously entitled The Baster stars Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, Juliette Lewis and Jeff Goldblum. The movie directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck (Blades of Glory) centers around an unmarried 40-year-old woman who turns to a turkey baster in order to become pregnant. When she reunites with her best friend, who has been living with a secret seven years later, she finds out that he replaced her preferred sperm sample with his own.
