Klaus Doldinger (1936-2025)

Klaus Doldinger passed away this past Thursday at age 89 in Munich, Germany. The jazz musician, composer and arranger wrote numerous scores for film and television between the late 1960s and the late 2010s. His best known feature scoring credits include Wolfgang Petersen’s Academy Award-nominated 1981 submarine war epic Das Boot, Petersen’s 1984 fantasy adventure The NeverEnding Story, Andrew Berkin’s 1992 romantic drama Salt on Our Skin and Volker Schlöndorff’s 1998 thriller Palmetto. ‘Riot Women’ Soundtrack Album Released

Silva Screen Records has released a soundtrack album for the BBC drama Riot Women. The album features the show’s original score composed by Ben Foster (RidleyTorchwood, Hidden Kingdoms, Thunderbirds Are Go!The Good Karma Hotel, Happy Valley, Scott & Bailey). Also included are two original songs written by punk duo ARXX‘s Hannah Pidduck & Clara Townsend and performed by the titular band, as well as Rosalie Craig’s cover of Hole’s Violet. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Also listen to Riot Women is created by Sally Wainwright and stars Joanna Scanlan, Craig, Tamsin Greig, Amelia Bullmore, Taj Atwal, Lorraine Ashbourne, Chandeep Uppal and Macy Seelochan. The 6-parter follows a teacher, a police officer, a pub landlady, a midwife and a shoplifting freeloader who form a female punk rock band to take part in a local talent contest and suddenly find they have a lot more to shout about than they ever imagined. Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the horror sequel Black Phone 2 co-written and directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Ethan Hawke, Demián Bichir, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies and Arianna Rivas. The film’s original music composed by the director’s son, Atticus Derrickson, who has made his feature scoring debut on the project. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening in theaters nationwide is the comedy Good Fortune written and directed by Aziz Ansari and starring Seth Rogen, Ansari himself, Keanu Reeves, Sandra Oh and Keke Palmer. Crooked Face Records has released a soundtrack album for the thriller The Wilderness. The album features the film’s original music composed by Isaac Middleton (of the Nashville synth-rock band New Translations) who has made his feature scoring debut on the project. The soundtrack is now available to stream/download on Amazon and most other major digital music services. The Wilderness is written and directed by Spencer King and stars Hunter Doohan, Lamar Johnson, Sam Jaeger, Aaron Holliday and Matt Gomez-Hidaka. The movie produced by Aaron Paul & Amy Berg and follows  a group of troubled boys who are forced into a ruthless “Wilderness Therapy” program and must survive both the elements and the mind games of a director who may not be trying to save them at all. Lee Malia (of the British rock band Bring Me the Horizon) has composed the original score for the upcoming zombie horror thriller This Is Not a Test. The film is written and directed by Adam MacDonald (Backcountry) and stars Olivia Holt, Froy Gutierrez, Luke MacFarlane, Corteon Moore, Chloe Avakian and Carson MacCormac. The movie based on the YA novel of the same name by Courtney Summers follows a suicidal teen and a small group of her classmates who get caught within the chaos of a zombie outbreak and escape their suddenly apocalyptic hometown streets by barricading themselves in their high school. Hans Zimmer (The Lion KingThe Dark KnightPirates of the Caribbean, InceptionDune, GladiatorInterstellar).has teamed up with violinist Aleksey Igudesman to compose the music for the upcoming German TV series Black Gold (Schwarzes Gold). The show is created by Justin Koch & Matthias Greving and stars Harriet Herbig-Matten, Aaron Hilmer, Tom Wlaschiha, Gwendoline Christie, Marton Csokas, Merlin Sandmeyer, Lena Urzendowsky, Jessica Schwarz, Henny Reents, Slavko Popadić and Liliom Lewald. The 6-part drama is set in a fictional village at the turn of the 20th Century and tells the story of a farmer’s daughter whose family is cheated by a rich landowner over the oil discovered under their fields and – when the oil rush hits the village – threatens to destroy her farming community forever. Milan Records has released the cover version of The Windmills of Your Mind from the British Prime Video original series Harlan Coben’s Lazarus. The track (originally written by Michel Legrand and Alan & Marilyn Bergman for the 1968 classic The Thomas Crown Affair) is produced by Rob Shirakbari and performed by singer/songwriter Rumer. The song is now available to stream/download (in three different versions) on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Also listen to the track below.
