UPDATE May 10, 2011: Sony Music will be releasing the soundtrack album on June 21, 2011 in the US. Check back on this page for more details and audio clips. To pre-order the soundtrack, visit Amazon.

While X-Men: First Class is still awaiting an official soundtrack release announcement, the album has appeared on several European online stores over the last couple of days. Sony Classical has been identified as the label and the soundtrack looks to be released on June 6, 2011 in the UK. Another update will be made when the domestic release date and more details about the album’s contents become available. Given the choice to release the soundtrack on Sony’s Classical label, it is safe to say that the album will most likely include Henry Jackman‘s original score. As has been reported by various websites, Take That‘s song Love Love has been chosen as the end credits song for the film and could also be featured on the soundtrack. Read the rest of this entry »

Nathaniel Mechaly Scoring ‘Colombiana’

The first trailer of the upcoming action thriller Colombiana premiered today and confirms the involvement of composer Nathaniel Mechaly. The film is directed by Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3) and co-written by Robert Mark Kamen (The Fifth Element, Taken, The Karate Kid) and Luc Besson, who also serves as one of the project’s producers. The movie’s cast is toplined by Zoe Saldana and Jordi Molla, Lennie James, Michael Vartan and Cliff Curtis are co-starring. Colombiana centers on a young woman who grows up to be an assassin after witnessing the murder of her parents as a child in Bogota. Read the rest of this entry »

BT Tapped to Score ‘Step Up 4’

BT has been tapped to score the upcoming dance movie Step Up 4. The sequel will be set in the backdrop of Miami. As announced this week, music video/commercials director Scott Speer will be helming the film and Jon Chu who directed the last two installments in the series (and is attached to direct the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel) will be executive producing. Chu and Steer previously worked together on the TV show The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. The film’s script is being written by Jenny Mayer and Adam Shankman (Hairspray, the upcoming Rock of Ages) is among the movie’s producers. Brian Tyler to Score ‘The Expendables 2’

Gordon and the Whale recently visited Brian Tyler at his studio and interviewed the composer about his work on Fast Five, currently playing in theaters. Tyler also talks about his work process, how his career developed over the last decade and some of his frequent collaborators including Justin Lin, Jonathan Liebesman and Sylvester Stallone. Check out the full video interview after the jump. During the interview, the composer confirms his involvement in the upcoming The Expendables 2, the sequel to last summer’s action hit. The project is still in pre-production and current reports indicate that Stallone won’t return to direct and only will be acting in the film. ‘La Fille Du Puisatier’ Soundtrack Details

Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the French romance La fille du puisatier (aka The Well Digger’s Daughter). The album includes Alexandre Desplat’s original score, as well Enrico Caruso’s performance of the song Core ‘Ngrato from the film. The score was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. The soundtrack has been released as a physical CD in Europe and will be available on iTunes in the US on May 31, 2011. The album can also be ordered as an import on Amazon. La fille du puisatier starring and directed by Daniel Auteuil has already been released in France and a domestic release has yet to be announced. Danny Elfman to Reunite with Tim Burton on ‘Frankenweenie’

Danny Elfman is set to reunite with director Tim Burton on the upcoming stop-motion animated movie Frankenweenie. The film is based on Burton’s 1984 short film about a pet dog brought back to life by his loyal owner after it is struck by a car. The movie’s voice talent includes several actors who have previously worked with the director, including Winona Ryder, Martin Landau, Martin Short and Catherine O’Hara. John August (Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride) is writing the screenplay. The project is the 14th collaboration between the composer and the director and the first one after their first billion-dollar movie Alice in Wonderland. ‘Jumping the Broom’ Soundtrack released

Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album for the comedy Jumping the Broom. The album includes Edward Shearmur’s original score, as well as several songs from the film. Artists featured on the soundtrack include Shelea Frazier, Louis Armstrong, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Gonzales, Cupid and Curtis Mayfield. The album is currently available to download on iTunes. Jumping the Broom is directed by Salim Akil and stars Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Loretta Devine, Mike Epps and Julie Bowen. The film is opening in theaters this Friday, May 6. Ludwig Göransson to Take Over ’30 Minutes or Less’

Ludwig Göransson is the new composer on the upcoming comedy 30 Minutes or Less. He is taking over from Nathan Barr who was originally attached to score the film as reported back in February. The project marks the first major studio feature for the Swedish composer who is best known for scoring the critically acclaimed NBC comedy show Community. 30 Minutes or Less is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and centers on a pizza delivery driver who gets kidnapped by two fledgling criminals and is being forced to rob a bank within 30 minutes. The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride, Nick Swardson and Michael Pena. Sony Pictures is releasing the film on August 12, 2011.
