According to the Gorfaine/Schwartz agency, William Ross is attached to score the upcoming sports drama Seven Days in Utopia. The movie stars Robert Duvall, Melissa Leo and Lucas Black. The film marks the directorial debut of Matt Russell who previously has worked as a visual effects coordinator on such movies as Live Free and Die Hard and A Night at the Museum. According to the film’s official blog, Seven Days in Utopia follows the story of Luke Chisolm, a talented young golfer set on making the pro tour. William Ross is no stranger to sports movies, having scored such titles as Tin Cup or The Game of Their Lives. While no new movies open wide this weekend, four movies are receiving a limited release to qualify for Acadmy Awards consideration. All movies are expected to expand over the next couple of weeks.

Oscar-eligible scores announced

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ music branch has sent out a list of all 77 Oscar-eligible scores for 2011’s Academy Awards ceremony. As previously reported, a number of scores has been ruled ineligible (Black Swan, The Fighter, True Grit, The Kids Are All Right) by the music branch and Randy Newman hasn’t submitted his score for Toy Story 3. The list also doesn’t include Alan Menken’s score for Tangled, which apparently also hasn’t been submitted, while a song from the movie written by Alan Menken is among the frontrunners for getting a song nomination. As Variety notes, James Newton Howard has four scores in contention (The Last Airbender, Love and Other Drugs, Salt, The Tourist), while Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow: Part 1, The Ghost Writer) and David Arnold (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Made in Dagenham, Morning Glory) have three scores each on the list. Deborah Lurie scoring ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’

Deborah Lurie is currently recording the score for the upcoming music documentary Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. The movie follows Justin Bieber with some footage of performances from his 2010 concert tour and will be released in 3D early next year. Also appearing in the film is Miley Cyrus and Jaden Smith. The documentary is directed by Jon Chu who directed this year’s Step Up 3D and 2008’s Step Up 2: The Streets, where he worked with composers Bear McCreary and Aaron Zigman. He recently uploaded a short video from the recording sessions of the score on Twitter, which can be watched here. The composer duo tomandandy has been chosen to score the upcoming thriller I Melt with You. The film focuses on four lifelong friends who, during their annual get-together, realize that their lives haven’t exactly turned out the way they expected. The movie is directed by Mark Pellington, who previously collaborated with tomandandy on Arlington Road (alongside Angelo Badalamenti) and The Mothman Prophecies. He recently used composer John Frizzell on his last movie Henry Poole Is Here. I Melt with You stars Carla Gugino, Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane and Rob Lowe. ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ soundtrack announced

Walt Disney Records has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming animation musical Gnomeo & Juliet. The album includes two new songs by Elton John, as well as new versions of classic Elton John hits, such as a new arrangement of Crocodile Rock featuring Nelly Furtado. Dario Marianelli scoring new ‘Jane Eyre’ adaptation

Film Music Reporter has learned that Dario Marianelli has been hired to score Focus Features’ upcoming movie adaptation of Jane Eyre. The movie is directed by Cary Fukunaga, who previously directed 2009’s indie hit Sin Nombre which featured a score by Marcelo Zarvos. The new adaptation stars Mia Wasikowska in the title role, as well as Judi Dench, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell and Sally Hawkins. Jane Eyre centers around a mousy governess who softens the heart of her employer and soon discovers that he’s hiding a terrible secret. ‘Hood To Coast’ soundtrack released

Trylee True Records has released an official soundtrack album for the upcoming documentary Hood To Coast. The score for the film was written by composer Nathan Barr. The album features 30 cues from Barr’s score for a running time of around 57 minutes. The documentary directed by Christoph Baaden and Marcie Hume centers around the annual Hood To Coast Relay race, the world’s largest relay race and follows several race teams on their journey.
