Varese Sarabande has announced two new soundtrack releases for upcoming horror movies. First up is the soundtrack for the 3D horror sequel Final Destination 5. The album includes the film’s music composed by Brian Tyler who is scoring his second Final Destination movie. The soundtrack will be released on August 9, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Check back on this page for the full details on the release. Final Destination 5 is directed by Steven Quale and stars Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Tony Todd and David Koechner. The movie sees a new batch of victims, co-workers on a corporate retreat, escaping the collapse of a city’s suspension bridge. The film will be released on August 12 by Warner Bros. Lyle Workman to Score ‘Fun Size’

Lyle Workman is set to score the upcoming comedy Fun Size. The film marks the feature directorial debut of writer/producer Josh Schwartz who is best known as the creator and showrunner of the TV hit show The O.C., as well as the co-creator of Chuck and Gossip Girl. The movie centers on a teenager who loses her brother after being forced to take him out for trick-or-treating on Halloween. The comedy stars Victoria Justice (Nickelodeon’s Victorious), Chelsea Handler, Riki Lindhome, Johnny Knoxville, Josh Pence, Thomas Mann and Jane Levy. ‘Another Earth’ Soundtrack announced

Milan Records has announced a soundtrack release for the indie sci-fi drama Another Earth. The album includes the film’s original music written by Fall On Your Sword. The soundtrack will be released on July 19, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below. Another Earth is directed by Mark Cahill and stars Brit Marling as an ambitious MIT astrophysics student who kills a man’s family in a car accident after leaning out of the window to catch sight of a newly discovered planet. After spending four years in prison, she returns home compelled to meet the bereaved husband and father. William Mapother and Jordan Bake are co-starring. Joseph Bishara is scoring the upcoming horror thriller 11-11-11. The movie is written and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III & IV). The film starring Michael Landes, Wendy Glenn and Timothy is inspired by the real-life organization that believes the recurrence of the numbers 11:11 are of spiritual significance and a link to spirit guardians. The story deals with 11 gates of Heaven and how the final gate will open for 49 minutes on November 11th, 2011. Bishara has previously collaborated with the director on the 2008 horror musical Repo! The Genetic Opera. The composer had his biggest box office success of his career to date earlier this year with the horror hit Insidious starring Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson. ‘The Event’ Score by Scott Starrett released

Earlier this week, a soundtrack album for the NBC sci-fi mystery drama The Event has been released. The album features 27 tracks of the original score from the show composed by Scott Starrett. The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to sound clips from all tracks. To learn more about the composer’s score on the project, check out two video interviews below courtesy of ASCAP and BuzzFocus.com. The Event created by Nick Wauters stars Jason Ritter, Sarah Roemer, Laura Innes, Ian Anthony Dale, Scott Patterson, Clifton Collins Jr. and Blair Underwood. Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Pixar’s animated film Cars 2 directed by John Lasseter is expected to top the weekend box office. The film’s music is composed by Michael Giacchino. A soundtrack album featuring five songs, as well as Giacchino’s score has been released by Walt Disney Records. Also opening wide is the comedy Bad Teacher directed by Jake Kasdan and starring Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel. The film’s score is written by Michael Andrews. David Newman Joins Academy Board

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that composer David Newman is among this year’s first-time electees to serve the Academy’s Board of Governors. He joins composers Bruce Broughton and Charles Fox as a governor for the Academy’s music branch. Fourteen of the Academy’s 15 branches are represented by three governors, who may serve up to three consecutive three-year terms. Terms are staggered so that each branch elects or reelects one governor each year. This year’s other new board members include cinematographer Richard P. Crudo, producer Gale Anne Hurd and film editor Michael Tronick.
Dario Marianelli Scoring ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’

Dario Marianelli has written the music for the upcoming comedy drama Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. The film based on the bestselling novel by Paul Torday is directed by Lasse Hallstrom (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat). Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, The Full Monty, 127 Hours) has adapted the novel for the screen. The movie starring Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor and Kristin Scott Thomas follows a fisheries scientist who is sent to introduce salmon to the Highlands of the Yemen. The project is produced by Paul Webster who has worked with the composer on Atonement and Pride & Prejudice. SoundWorks Collection has published a new profile on the sound and music of Pixar’s Cars 2, which is opening in theaters today. Fred Steiner Passes Away at 88

Fred Steiner has died at the age of 88. The composer was born on February 24, 1923 in New York. Best known for writing the piece Park Avenue Beat, which was used as the theme for the hit TV show Perry Mason, he also wrote music for such shows as Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, Hogan’s Heroes, Hotel, Lost in Space, Hawaii Five-O, Dynasty and Amazing Stories. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Steven Spielberg’s 1985 film The Color Purple as one of the composers credited for writing the music for the movie alongside lead composer Quincy Jones.
