Christopher Young is scoring the upcoming horror action horror thriller Priest. The movie involves a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who kidnapped his niece. The film stars Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Lily Collins, Stephen Moyer and Christopher Plummer. Priest is directed by Scott Charles Stewart who previously directed last year’s Legion with music by John Frizzell. Screen Gems has scheduled a May 13, 2011 release date for the 3D picture. Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack for the upcoming horror thriller The Rite directed by Mikael Hafstrom and starring Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue and Alice Braga. The album includes 13 tracks of Alex Heffes’ original score and has has a running time of around 56 minutes. The soundtrack will come out on January 25 as a download release, with a physical CD to follow on February 8 (click here to pre-order the CD). Reznor and Ross win Golden Globe for ‘Best Score’

Trent Reznor’s and Atticus Ross’ score for David Fincher’s The Social Network won the Golden Globe Award for ‘Best Original Score’ at today’s 68th Golden Globes ceremony. Reznor and Ross beat out the other four nominees Alexandre Desplat for The King’s Speech, Hans Zimmer for Inception, Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland and A.R. Rahman for 127 Hours. The Award marks the first nomination and win for both Reznor and Ross.
In the ‘Best Original Song’, Dianne Warren won the Golden Globe Award for the song You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me from Burlesque (performed by Cher). Songwriter Warren was nominated five times before, but this marks her first Golden Globe win.
Ramin Djawadi to score ‘Fright Night’

Ramin Djawadi has been hired to score the upcoming horror film Fright Night. The film is remake of the comedy-horror picture about a teenager who discovers his new next-door neighbor is a vampire. The movie is directed by Craig Gillespie, who has previously worked with composers David Torn on Lars and the Real Girl and Theodore Shapiro on Mr. Woodcock. Fright Night stars Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Please, David Tennant and Toni Collette. Tom Holland’s original 1985 film featured a score by Brad Fiedel. Djawadi himself is no stranger to horror films, having previously scored 2009’s The Unborn. Marco Beltrami scoring ‘Soul Surfer’

According to the film’s teaser trailer, Marco Beltrami is writing the music for the family sports drama Soul Surfer. The movie is directed by Sean McNamara (Raise Your Voice, Bratz) and stars AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, Craig T. Nelson and Carrie Underwood. In the film, a young, teenage surfer girl summons the courage to go back into the ocean after losing an arm in a shark attack. As previously reported, Beltrami also has the horror thriller The Thing and the horror sequel Scream 4 coming out this year. The Thing was recently pushed back from its original April release date to October 14, 2011, while Scream 4 is still set to open on April 15.

Film Music Reporter has learned that Ilan Eshkeri has been tapped to compose the score the action spoof sequel Johnny English Reborn. Rowan Atkinson reprises his role from the 2003 hit comedy and is joined by cast members Rosamunde Pike, Dominic West and Gillian Anderson. In the movie, Johnny English goes up against international assassins hunting down the Chinese premier. The sequel is directed by Oliver Parker, most famous for his Oscar Wilde adaptations of An Ideal Husband, The Importance of Being Earnest and Dorian Gray, as well as the Shakespeare adaptation Othello and the St. Trinian’s series, all of which have been scored by his regular collaborator Charlie Mole. A.R. Rahman to score Dreamworks Animation’s ‘Monkeys of Bollywood’

Variety reports that A.R. Rahman has been hired to score the animated musical Monkeys of Bollywood from Dreamworks Animation. Also on board the project is lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Enchanted) and husband-and-wife producing team Gurinder Chadha and Paul Berge (Bend It Like Beckham, Bride and Prejudice). The project marks the studios’ first animated musical since 1998’s The Prince of Egypt, which was scored by Hans Zimmer and featured songs composed by Schwartz. The mumbai-set project is inspired by the Hindu epic poem “The Ramayana” and revolves around two monkeys who try to stop an ancient demon from conquering the world. No word yet on when the Bollywood-style animated musical is expected to come out.

Lionsgate Records has released Michael Wandmacher’s score for the horror thriller Train. The film directed by Gideon Raff (The Killing Floor) stars Thora Birch.The movie is set in Europe, where a group of American college athletes unknowingly board a train that will become one deadly ride.
