La-La Land Records has released a new soundtrack edition for the 1986 action adventure film The Golden Child. The 3 CD set includes both John Barry’s unused score and Michel Colombier’s score from the Paramount Pictures-produced movie. The soundtrack set marks the premiere release of Barry’s unused score. Also included are Barry’s unused song Dance A Little Closer performed by Randy Edelman, as well as the composer’s song Best Man in the World performed by Ann Wilson. A.R. Rahman to Score ‘Welcome to People’

A.R. Rahman has signed on to score the upcoming drama Welcome to People. The film directed by Alex Kurtzman (Fringe, Star Trek) centers on a man who is directed by his father’s will to deliver $150.000 to his sister he didn’t know he had. The movie stars Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Duplass. Kurtzman co-wrote the screenplay with his regular writing partner Roberto Orci, as well as Jody Lambert. Kurtzman and Orci also produce alongside Bobby Cohen (Jarhead, Revolutionary Road). Welcome to People is currently in post-production and a release date announcement is expected in the near future.

Alberto Iglesias is currently recording his score for the Cold War thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The movie starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Stephen Graham and Benedict Cumberbatch is directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In). The film based on the novel by John Le Carre centers on a veteran British spy who is rehired in secret by his government, which fears that the British Secret Intelligence Service, a.k.a. MI-6, has been compromised by a double agent working for the Soviet. Bridet O’Connor and Peter Straughan (The Men Who Stare at Goats, The Debt) adapted the novel for the big screen. The film stars stars Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde as a brother and sister fleeing after a casino heist, who meet a young boxer just out of prison. Charlie Hunnam, Kris Kristofferson, Sissy Spacek, Kate Mara and Treat Williams are co-starring. The movie is directed by Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky who previously directed The Counterfeiters, which won the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category in 2008. John Debney to Score ‘The Three Stooges’

John Debney has been hired to score the upcoming slapstick comedy The Three Stooges. The film based on the mid-20th century comedy shorts is directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber). The movie stars Chris Diamantopolous as Moe Howard, Sean Hayes as Larry Fine and Will Sasso as Curly Howard. Sofia Vergara, Jane Lynch, Larry David, Jennifer Hudson, Craig Bierko and Carly Craig are co-starring. Mike Cerrone (Me, Myself and Irene) co-wrote the screenplay with the Farrelly Brothers who are also producing with Bradley Thomas and Charles B. Wessler. The Three Stooges takes place when the trio are dumped out as newborns at the door of an orphanage and the story follows them into adulthood. According to an interview with Peter Farrelly on EW.com, the film is structured in three acts, each a stand-alone story like the original episodes, but loosely connected. Fernando Velazquez’s ‘Devil’ Score Album announced

Varese Sarabande has announced a new limited edition album of the soundtrack for last year’s horror thriller Devil. The album features the original score by Fernando Velazquez performed by the London Metropolitan Orchestra. The soundtrack is limited to 1000 copies and is available for pre-order on the label’s website, where you can also listen to audio clips. Devil directed by John Erick Dowdle, produced by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Chris Messina, Caroline Dhavernas and Bokeem Woodbine centers on a group of people who are trapped in an elevator. Brian Reitzell to Score Starz’s ‘Boss’

Brian Reitzell has signed on to score the Starz series Boss. The show stars Kelsey Grammer as the Mayor of Chicago who is diagnosed with a degenerative mental condition that only he and his doctor know about. Kathleen Robinson, Martin Donovan, Jeff Hephner, Connie Nielsen and Hannah Ware are co-starring. The project is created by Farhad Safinia (co-writer of Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto). Gus Van Sant (Milk, Good Will Hunting) directed the show’s pilot. Grammer, Safinia and Grammer are producing with Richard Levine & Lyn Greene (Nip/Tuck), as well as Brian Sher and Stella Stolper. Geoff Zanelli (Disturbia, Hitman) is the composer of the upcoming indie comedy Should’ve Been Romeo. The film is directed by Marc Bennett and stars Paul Ben-Victor, Kelly Osbourne, Ed Asner, Carol Kane, Michael Rapaport, Mary McCormack, Natasha Henstridge, Renee Taylor, B.J. Britt, Evan Handler, Alanna Ubach and Howard Rosenman. The movie centers on a self-centered, middle-aged pitchman for a potato chip company who loses his job and his livelihood just as his grandfather is dropped on his doorstep unexpectedly by his mother on her way to a singles cruise. Michael Brook (The Fighter, Into the Wild) has recently co-written the music for the upcoming romantic drama The Vow. As reported last year, Rachel Portman has also been working on the project. The movie starring Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum, Sam Neill, Scott Speedman, Wendy Crewson and Jessica Lange centers on a newlywed couple that recovers from a car accident that puts the wife in a coma. Waking up with severe memory loss, her husband endeavors to win her heart again. The film is directed by Michael Suscy who worked with Portman on the Emmy-winning drama Grey Gardens.
