David Hirschfelder is composing the score for the upcoming drama The Railway Man. The movie is directed by Jonathan Teplitzy (Burning Man) and stars Colin Firth as Eric Lomax, a British officer who was captured and tortured by the Japanese in World War II and is persuaded by his wife to seek out and confront one of his captors a few decades later. Nicole Kidman, Jeremy Irvine, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada are co-starring. Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions, Hilary & Jackie) and Andy Paterson (producer of Girl with a Pearl Earring) have written the screenplay based on Lomax’s autobiography. ‘Song for Marion’ Soundtrack Details

Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the comedy drama Song for Marion. The album features the songs featured in the film performed by the movie’s cast. Also included are selections from the original score composed by Laura Rossi. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on February 25, 2013. No word yet on a domestic release. Song for Marion written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams and starring Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, Vanessa Redgrave and Christopher Eccleston follows a grumpy pensioner who is reluctantly inspired by his beloved wife Marion to join a highly unconventional local choir. The movie premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and will be released in the UK later this month and is set to come out in the US under the title Unfinished Song on June 21, 2013 by the Weinstein Company. Mariah Carey Performs ‘Almost Home’ for ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’

Disney announced today that Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Mariah Carey has recorded the original song Almost Home for Sam Raimi’s upcoming fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful. The track will be released as a single by Carey’s label, Island Def Jam, on February 19, 2013. David LaChapelle will direct Carey in the music video for Almost Home. Carey has written the song with Simone Porter, Justin Gray, Lindsey Ray, Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen. She has previously performed original songs for such films as The Prince of Egypt and Glitter. As previously reported, Danny Elfman has composed the score for Oz the Great and Powerful, which will be released by Intrada and Walt Disney Records next month. Read the rest of this entry »
‘The Grandmaster’ to Feature Music by Nathaniel Mechaly

Nathaniel Mechaly has composed a new score for the international version of the martial arts epic The Grandmaster. The film is directed by Wong Kar-Wai (In the Mood for Love, My Blueberry Nights) and stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Zhang Ziyi, Chang Chen, Wang Qingxiang, Zhang Jin, Zhao Benshan and Song Hye-kyo. The movie is a biopic of martial artist Ip Man, who practiced the art of Wing Chun and is best known as the man who taught Bruce Lee. Kar-Wai is producing the Jet Tone Films and Sil-Metropole Organization production with Jacky Pang Yee-wah. Shigeru Umebayashi composed a score for the version that was released in China last month. Patrick Doyle has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller Jack Ryan. The reboot of the franchise based on the characters created by Tom Clancy is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Chris Pine in the title role as an ex-Marine who works as a successful financial analyst in Moscow and discovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy, and must race against time to save America and his wife. Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Branagh himself are co-starring. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers series, Red, Salt) is producing the project with Mace Neufeld (The Hunt for Red October, Invictus) and David Barron (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hamlet). Intrada Records and Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for Sam Raimi’s upcoming fantasy adventure Oz the Great and Powerful. The album features the film’s score composed by Danny Elfman who has previously worked with the director on the first two Spider-Man movies, as well as on the features A Simple Plan and Army of Darkness. No word yet on the release date, but the track titles can be checked out after the jump. The full soundtrack details and cover art will be posted on this site within the next few weeks. Oz the Great and Powerful starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s character, the Wizard of Oz. Intrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the soundtrack for the 1973 western Cahill United States Marshal directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and starring John Wayne, George Kennedy and Gary Grimes. The music is composed and conducted by Elmer Bernstein. The album features the complete score from the film, including an unused cue for the ending, as well as the song A Man Gets to Thinkin’ performed by Charlie Rich, written by Bernstein with lyrics by Don Black. Mason Daring is reuniting with director John Sayles on the upcoming indie drama Go for Sisters. The film stars Edward James Olmos, LisaGay Hamilton, Yolonda Ross, Harold Perrineau, Hector Elizondo and Isaiah Washington. The movie follows two friends who lose track of each other for twenty years and are reunited when one of them is assigned as the parole officer for the other, who is fresh out of prison and fighting heroin addiction. Sayles has also written the screenplay and Alejandro Springall, Peter Bobrow and Edward James Olmos are producing. A Place at the Table directed by Kristi Jacobson (Toots) and Lori Silverbush examines the issue of hunger in America through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity. The film features Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio, actor Jeff Bridges, and more. The movie premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival and has been picked by Magnolia Pictures.
