T-Bone Burnett has reunited with Ethan and Joel Coen on their upcoming music-themed drama Inside Llewyn Davis. The movie based on the memoir of folk singer Dave Van Ronk, a friend of Bob Dylan’s and other famous musicians, stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, F. Murray Abraham and John Goodman. The movie is set in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene and follows a struggling musician from Queens who, despite being a talented singer and guitarist, can’t make ends meet. James Horner to Receive Max Steiner Award

James Horner has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert at Vienna Concert Hall on October 4, 2013. The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Lalo Schifrin and John Barry. Horner has written over 100 film scores including the scores for the two biggest box office hits of all time, Titanic and Avatar. His other credits include Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, Aliens, Apollo 13, Legends of the Fall, Field of Dreams, The Perfect Storm, House of Sand and Fog and The Amazing Spider-Man. ‘Life of Pi’ Music Featurette

20th Century Fox has published a short video featurette about the music for Ang Lee’s 3D adventure drama Life of Pi. The video features composer Mychael Danna talking about his musical approach and his collaboration with the director, as well as footage from the recording sessions at the Newman Scoring Stage on the Fox lot in Los Angeles. Christopher Lennertz is scoring the upcoming music-themed drama Battle of the Year: The Dream Team. The film is directed by Benson Lee and is based on his 2007 documentary about the international world of B-boying, also known in the US as breakdancing. The movie starring Josh Holloway, Laz Alonso, Josh Peck, Caity Lotz and Chris Brown centers on an all-star American b-boy crew training to compete in France at the Battle of the Year (BOTY) International Championships. Brin Hill (Won’t Back Down) and Chris Parker (Vampire in Brooklyn) have written the screenplay and Beau Flynn & Tripp Vinson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Journey to the Center of the Earth) are producing the project for Contrafilm, along with Amy Lo. Adele to Perform ‘Skyfall’ at Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has announced today that Adele will perform the Oscar-nominated title song from the latest James Bond movie Skyfall at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony. The song, written by Adele and Paul Epworth, is the first Bond theme ever to debut in Billboard’s Top 10 and the first to be nominated for an Oscar since For Your Eyes Only in 1981. Adele’s exclusive Oscar show performance will be the first time she will have performed Skyfall anywhere live and will also mark her first television performance in the US since the Grammys last year. Skyfall is nominated in the Best Original Song category, along with songs from Life of Pi, Les Miserables, Chasing Ice and Ted. Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.

MovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album for the mini-series Flight of the Storks (Le vol des cigognes). The album features the series’ original score written by French composer Eric Neveux (Intimacy, Hideaways). The soundtrack is now available digitally on iTunes, where you can also check out audio clips. Flight of the Storks is based on the 1994 novel by Jean-Christophe Grangné and follows a young academic who teams up with an amateur ornithologist to follow storks on their migration to Africa. The EuropaCorp Television production is directed by Jan Kounen (Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky) and stars Rutger Hauer, Harry Treadaway, Perdita Weeks and Clemens Schick. Martin Davich has composed the score for the indie western Sweetwater. The film is directed by Logan & Noah Miller and stars Ed Harris, January Jones, Jason Isaacs, Eduardo Noriega, Jason Aldean and Stephen Root. The movie is set in the late 1800s and follows a fanatical religious leader, a renegade Sheriff, and a former prostitute who collide in a blood triangle on the rugged plains of the New Mexico Territory. The Millers have also written the screenplay with Andrew McKenzie and Jason Netter (Wanted) is producing the Arc Entertainment production. ‘Frozen Planet’ Soundtrack Announced

Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack album for the BBC series Frozen Planet. The album features selections from the show’s score composed and conducted by George Fenton (Gandhi, Cry Freedom, The Fisher King) who has previously scored the nature documentary series The Blue Planet and Planet Earth. The music is performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra. The soundtrack will be released on March 18, 2013. Frozen Planet narrated by David Attenborough (and Alec Baldwin in the US version) focuses on life and the environment in both the Arctic and Antarctic. Basil Poledouris’ ‘Flight of the Intruder’ Score Released

Intrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the soundtrack for Paramount Pictures’ 1991 Vietnam war-set action drama Flight of the Intruder directed by John Milius and starring Danny Glover, Willem Dafoe and Brad Johnson. The film’s music is composed and conducted by Basil Poledouris who also collaborated with the director on such films as Conan the Barbarian, Red Dawn and Farewell to the King. The album features the composer’s complete score, as well as two alternates and the world premiere of complete trailer music written by John Beal.
