James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, King Kong, The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Fugitive, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Maleficent, The Village) & Xander Rodzinski (Willow, Dead for a Dollar, Bolt from the Blue) have teamed up to compose the music for the upcoming Netflix original documentary Marty, Life Is Short. The film is directed by Lawrence Kasdan (The Big Chill, Silverado) and centers on beloved comedian Martin Short. The movie features intimate, never-before-seen archive footage alongside interviews with some of the most established and beloved stars and takes a look at one of the most influential comedians of a generation.

‘Silverado’ Digital Soundtrack Album Released
Madison Gate Records has released a digital version of the (expanded) soundtrack album for the 1985 western Silverado co-written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan and starring Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Rosanna Arquette, Kevin Costner, John Cleese, Danny Glover, Brian Dennehy, Linda Hunt and Jeff Goldblum. The album features the film’s complete original score composed and conducted by Bruce Broughton (Tombstone, Rescuers Down Under, The Miracle on 42nd Street, Young Sherlock Holmes, Lost in Space, Homeward Bound) who received an Academy Award nomination for his music. Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album for Lucasfilm’s Disney+ original docuseries Light & Magic. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, King Kong, The Sixth Sense, The Fugitive, Maleficent), as well as additional music tracks by Michael Dean Parsons, Xander Rodzinski & Tobin Pugash. James Newton Howard’s Expanded ‘Wyatt Earp’ Score Released
La-La Land Records has released a new limited soundtrack edition for Warner Bros. Pictures’ 1994 western Wyatt Earp directed by Lawrence Kasdan and starring Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid and Gene Hackman. The 3-CD set features the expanded film score composed by James Newton Howard (The Sixth Sense, The Hunger Games, King Kong) on the first two discs, as well as bonus and source cues and the original 1994 soundtrack album edits on the third disc. The release, which was supervised by the composer and producer/actor Kevin Costner is limited to 3000 copies. James Newton Howard Scoring ‘Darling Companion’
Film Music Reporter has learned that James Newton Howard is currently working on the score for the upcoming drama Darling Companion. The film is directed by Newton Howard’s long time collaborator Lawrence Kasdan. They have previously worked together on such movies as Grand Canyon, Wyatt Earp, French Kiss, Mumford and Dreamcatcher. The project marks Kasdan’s first directorial effort in over eight years. The film centers around a woman who loves her dog more than her husband, and the drama that ensues after he loses the dog after attending a wedding at their vacation home in the Rockies. The independently financed movie stars Kevin Kline, Diane Keaton, Richard Jenkins and Elizabeth Moss. The film was shot last fall and is currently in post-production. No release date has been set.
