Peter Nashel and Eric V. Hachikian are composing the score for the upcoming Netflix original series Marco Polo. The show is created by John Fusco (Forbidden Kingdom, Hidalgo) and stars Lorenzo Richelmy, Zhu Zhu, Joan Chen, Benedict Wong, Remy Hii, Olivia Cheng, Claudia Kim, Uli Latukefu, Chin Han and Tom Wu. The drama is based on the famed explorer’s adventures in Kublai Khan’s court in 13th century China. Fusco is also executive producing the project with Harvey Weinstein and Dan Minahan (Game of Thrones, True Blood). Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) directed the first two episodes and also serve as executive producers.

‘The Homesman’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for Tommy Lee Jones’ drama The Homesman. The album features the film’s music written by Academy Award-nominated composer Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, The Hurt Locker, Scream, World War Z). The soundtrack will be released physically on December 9, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Homesman is based on the novel by James Swarthout and stars Tommy Lee Jones, Hilary Swank, Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter, David Dencik, William Fichtner, John Lithgow, Brian Kennedy, Tim Blake Nelson, Jesse Plemons, James Spader, Hailee Steinfeld and Meryl Streep.
Soundtrack Details Announced for Mike Leigh’s ‘Mr. Turner’
Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for Mike Leigh’s drama Mr. Turner. The album features the film’s original music composed by Gary Yershon who previously collaborated with the director on such films as Happy Go Lucky and Another Year. Also included is the composer’s score for the director’s short A Running Jump. The soundtrack will be released on December 9, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Mr. Turner is written and directed by Leigh and stars Timothy Spall, Dorothy Atkinson, Marion Bailey, Paul Jesson, Lesley Manville, Martin Savage, Joshua McGuire, Ruth Sheen, David Horovitch and Karl Johnson. The movie explores the last quarter century of the British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851).
Howard Shore to Score Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’
Howard Shore confirmed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he will be reuniting with director Martin Scorsese on the upcoming historical drama Silence. The film stars Andrew Garfield as a 17th-century Portuguese Jesuit who travels to Japan with a fellow priest, played by Liam Neeson, amid rumors that his mentor has abandoned the Church, to find out that the local Christian population has been driven underground by religious persecution. Ken Watanabe and Adam Driver are co-starring. Jay Cooks (Gangs of New York, Age of Innocence) has written the screenplay based on the novel by Shûsaku Endô. Irwin Winkler (Goodfellas, Rocky, Raging Bull) is producing the project with Randall Emmett & George Furla (End of Watch, Lone Survivor, 2 Guns) and Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Wolf of Wall Street).
Mac Quayle Scoring ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’
Mac Quayle is the new composer of the FX hit series American Horror Story. The composer is currently scoring the fourth season of the show, entitled Freak Show. The horror drama is created Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk and stars Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Michael Chiklis, Frances Conroy, Denis O’Hare, Emma Roberts, Finn Wittrock, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange. Among the guest stars this season are Wes Bentley and Matt Bomer. Freak Show is set in 1952 Jupiter, Florida and tells the story of one of the last remaining freak shows in America, and their struggle for survival.
‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ Score Album Details
The details have been revealed of the score album for The Hunger Games: Mockinjay – Part 1. The album features the film’s original music composed by James Newton Howard (Maleficent, King Kong, Signs, The Sixth Sense) who previously scored the first two installments in the series. The soundtrack will be released on November 24, 2014 by Republic Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. As previously reported, the label will also release a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from and inspired by the film. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Woody Harrelson.
Jeff Russo & Zoe Keating to Score A&E’s ‘The Returned’
Jeff Russo and Zoe Keating are composing the music for the upcoming A&E original series The Returned starring Mark Pellegrino, Tandi Wright, India Ennenga, Sophie Lowe, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jeremy Sisto, Kevin Alejandro, Agnes Bruckner and Sandrine Holt. The show is based on the International Emmy Award-winning French series Les Revenants and focuses on a small town that is turned upside down when several local people, who have been long presumed dead suddenly reappear, bringing with them both positive and detrimental consequences. Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) has written the pilot episode and is writing and executive producing the series with Raelle Tucker (True Blood).
‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ TV Series Soundtrack Announced
Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album for the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The album features selections from the original score from the show’s seasons 1 through 6 composed by Kevin Kiner (Star Wars Rebels, CSI: Miami, Hell on Wheels). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 10, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A vinyl version is set to be released on December 6 and is available for pre-order here. Sony Classical has previously released a soundtrack featuring Kiner’s music from the feature version of the series. Star Wars: The Clone Wars premiered in 2008 and the final season aired earlier this year on Cartoon Network.
Dave Grusin’s ‘Falling in Love’ Score to Be Released
Kritzerland has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1984 romantic drama Falling in Love directed by Ulu Grosbard and starring Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep, Harvey Keitel, Jane Kaczmarek, George Martin and Dianne Wiest. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Dave Grusin (The Firm, The Graduate, The Goonies, Three Days of the Condor, Tootsie). The limited edition CD also features several unused and alternate cues, including the composer’s original main title theme, which was not used in the final version of the Paramount Pictures release. Hans Zimmer to Collaborate with Junkie XL on ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’
Hans Zimmer revealed in an interview with Comic Book Resource that he will be collaborating with Junkie XL on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The composer mentioned that Junkie XL aka Tom Holkenborg will be providing music for the Batman character, while he will take care of Clark Kent/Superman. Zimmer previously scored Snyder’s Man of Steel. Junkie XL composed additional music for Man of Steel and also worked with Snyder on 300: Rise of an Empire. Zimmer had previously expressed hesitation to score another Batman movie when he was first asked about the project given his involvement with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Batman v Superman starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter is set to be released on March 25, 2016 by Warner Bros. Pictures.
