restlessEndor Productions will release a soundtrack album for the British mini-series Restless. The album features more than 2 hours of the two-part movie’s original music composed by Lorne Balfe (Megamind, Ironclad). The soundtrack will be released on March 12, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are available after the jump. Restless based on a novel by William Boyd (Chaplin) is directed by Edward Hall and stars Hayley Atwell, Rufus Sewell, Michelle Dockery, Michael Gambon and Charlotte Rampling. The mini-series follows a woman who discovers that her mother was recruited as a spy during World War II. Armando Trovajoli (1917-2013)

armando-trovajoliArmando Trovajoli has passed away in Rome, Italy at age 95. The Italian film composer and jazz pianist has composed the music for numerous films, including Vittorio De Sicca’s 1960 drama Two Women (La ciociara), for which Sophia Loren received an Academy Award for her lead performance. Travajoli also collaborated with De Sicca on a number of other romantic comedies, including Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (Ieri, oggi, domani) and Marriage Italian Style (Matrimonio all’italiana), both starring Loren & Marcello Mastroianni. His other credits include the 1977 romance A Special Day (Una giornata particolare) directed by Ettore Scola and starring Loren & Mastroianni, which was honored with two Academy Award nominations and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film. The composer’s best known non-film work was the piece Roma nun fa’ la stupida stasera written for the 1962 stage musical Rugantino.

im-so-excitedQuartet Records will release the soundtrack album for Pedro Almadovar’s upcoming comedy I’m So Excited (Los amantes pasajeros). The album features the film’s original score composed by the director’s regular musical collaborator Alberto Iglesias (The Constant Gardener, The Kite Runner). Also included is the classic song I’m So Excited by the Pointer Sisters, as well as tracks by Los Destellos, Luiz Bonfá, Django Django and Metronomy. Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

jack-the-giant-slayerExpected to top the weekend box office is the fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer directed by Bryan Singer and starring Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy and Ewan McGregor. The film’s music is composed by John Ottman (X2, The Usual SuspectsThe Fantastic Four) who also edited the movie and served as an associate producer. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Visit out previous article for audio clips and the full album details. 21-and-overAlso opening wide is the comedy 21 & Over written and directed by Jon Lucas & Scott Moore  and starring Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Skylar Astin and Sarah Wright. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Langhorne Slim & The Law, Dropkick Myrphys, 4th Pyramid, Spaceman, T. Mills, The Blue Van, Big Freedia, Benny Benassi, Ben Gidsjoy, Iman Shumpert, The Naked and Famous and The Gaslight Anthem. ‘Trance’ Soundtrack Details

tranceThe details of the soundtrack release for Danny Boyle’s thriller Trance have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Rick Smith who is best known as a member of the electronic music group Underworld and has previously worked with the director on such projects as Sunshine and last year’s Olympics opening ceremony. Also included are tracks by Art & Dotty Todd. Kirsty McGee, UNKLE, M People and Moby. The soundtrack will be released overseas later this month and in the US on April 2, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Trance stars James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson. The movie follows a fine art auctioneer mixed up with a criminal gang who joins forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting. The thriller will be released in the UK later this month and Fox Searchlight will be releasing the movie in select cities on April 5 in the US. Read the rest of this entry »

robert-duncanRobert Duncan is composing the score for the pilot of the new CBS show Beverly Hills Cop. The project is a continuation of the film franchise and stars Brandon T. Jackson as the police officer son of Axel Foley, played by Eddie Murphy, who takes down the criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills while working to escape his famous father’s shadow. Murphy is expected to recur if the project goes to series. Christine Lahti, David Denman, Kevin Pollak and Sheila Vand are co-starring. Shawn Ryan (The Shield) has written the pilot and is executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production with Murphy and Marney Hochman. Duncan has previously collaborated with Ryan on such shows as The Unit, Terriers, The Chicago Code and most recently, Last Resort. Read the rest of this entry »

place-beyond-the-pinesMilan Records will release the official soundtrack album for the crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mike Patton who is best known as the lead singer of Faith No More and has previously scored Crank: High Voltage. Also included are a number of other tracks featured in the film by The Cryin’ Shames, Arvo Part, Ennio Morricone and Bon Iver. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 26, 2013  and physically on April 9. To pre-order the CD, visit Amazon. A 180-gram LP will be released on May 9. miserables-deluxeThe track list for the deluxe edition of the soundtrack for Tom Hooper’s hit movie musical Les Miserables has been revealed. The album features all songs from the film composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg and with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil performed by the movie’s cast including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Colm Wilkinson, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter. The soundtrack will be released on March 19, 2013 by Republic Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring highlights from the music from the film. Les Miserables received three Academy Awards this past Sunday for Hathaway’s supporting performance, Best Makeup and Sound Mixing.
