Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is the space drama Gravity directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. The film’s original score is composed by Steven Price (The World’s End, Attack the Block). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Also opening wide this week is the thriller Runner Runner directed by Brad Furman and starring Justin Timberlake, Gemma Arterton, Ben Affleck, Anthony Mackie, Michael Esper, Oliver Cooper and Ben Schwartz. Christophe Beck (The Hangover trilogy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. A CD version will be released later this month. JustMusic will release a soundtrack album for the romantic drama How I Live Now. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jon Hopkins (Monsters) Also included is Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra’s Do It With a Rockstar and a remix of Daughter’s Home by Hopkins. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 7, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Alberto Iglesias is scoring the upcoming drama The Two Faces of January. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Hossein Amini (Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman, Four Feathers) and stars Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst and Oscar Isaac. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Strangers on a Train) and follows a con artist, his wife and a stranger who try to flee a foreign country after one of them is caught up in the murder of a police officer. Tom Sternberg (Lost Highway, The Talented Mr. Ripley) is producing the Studiocanal and Working Title production with Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Les Miserables, Love Actually) and Robyn Slovo.
RCA Records will release a soundtrack release for the upcoming comedy The Best Man Holiday. The album features the Christmas-themed songs from the film by artists including Jordin Sparks, R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Fantasia, Ne-Yo and Emeli Sandé. The soundtrack will be released on October 29, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Theodore Shapiro has been hired to score the upcoming comedy drama Infinitely Polar Bear. The film is written and directed by Maya Forbes (screenwriter of Monsters vs Aliens and The Rocker) and stars Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana. The movie is set in 1978 and follows a manic depressive father who tries to win back his wife by taking responsibility for their two free spirited daughters. Wally Wolodarsky (The Kennedys), Benji Kohn, Austin Stark & Bingo Gubelmann (Detachment, Happythankyounomoreplease), Sam Bisbee & Galt Niederhoffer (Robot & Frank) are producing the Paper Street Films and Park Pictures production. JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk (Lost, Star Trek) are executive producing the project for Bad Robot.
Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album for the ABC Halloween special Toy Story of Terror. The album features the animated short’s original score composed by Michael Giacchino who has previously scored Pixar’s The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up and Cars 2, as well as numerous shorts. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 15, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Anne Dudley is composing the score for the upcoming medical drama Breathless. The series is co-created and written by Paul Unwin (Shameless) and stars Jack Davenport, Iain Glen, Zoe Boyle and Natasha Little. The show is set in 1960s London and follow a group of doctors and nurses working in a hospital at a time when abortion was still illegal, the contraceptive pill only available to married women and moral codes were shifting. Unwin has also directed the first two episodes of the six-part drama and is executive producing the Masterpiece and ITV Studios production with Rebecca Eaton (Downton Abbey, Sherlock) and Kate Bartlett.
La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album for the NBC fantasy drama Grimm. The album features selections of the original score from the first two seasons composed by Richard Marvin (U-571, Surrogates, Six Feet Under). The soundtrack will be released on October 22, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Fernando Velazquez is set to score Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming gothic horror thriller Crimson Peak. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Tom Hiddleston. No plot details have been revealed yet. Del Toro (Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) and Lucinda Coxon (Wild Target, The Heart of Me) are co-writing the screenplay based on an original script written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins (Mimic, The Sugarland Express, Batteries Not Included). Legendary Pictures is producing and financing the project and Universal Pictures will have the option to come on board as a finance partner at a later date.
