Three new movies are opening nationwide this holiday weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action sequel Fast & Furious 6 directed by Justin Lin and starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Luke Evans, Gina Carano and John Ortiz. Def Jam Recordings has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs featured in the film by artists including 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa, T.I., deadmau5 feat. Cypress Hills and and Ludacris feat. Also opening wide is the animated feature Epic directed by Chris Wedge and featuring the voice talent of Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Aziz Ansari, Blake Anderson, Judah Friedlander and Beyoncé Knowles. Danny Elfman has composed the film’s original score. Sony Classics has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Sparks & Shadows will release a soundtrack album for the Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. The album features selections from the original score from the show’s first season composed by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). The soundtrack includes more than 90 minutes of music and will be released digitally on May 28, 2013. A 2-CD collector’s edition will be released later this year. David Hirschfelder is composing the score for the upcoming family action adventure Walking with Dinosaurs 3D. The film is directed by Neil Nightingale & Barry Cook (Mulan, Arthur Christmas) and follows two brothers looking to follow in their father’s footsteps, which leads them to a showdown with dinosaurs in the Arctic. Charlie Rowe has been cast in one of the leading roles. John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Happy Feet) and Theodore Thomas wrote the screenplay and Mike Devlin, Amanda Hill and Deepak Nayar (Bend It Like Beckham, Lost Highway) are producing the BBC Earth, Evergreen Films and Reliance Big Entertainment production.
Unkle Productions will release a soundtrack album for the drama The Attack (L’atttentat). The album features the film’s original score composed by Eric Neveux (Intimacy, Borgia). The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 27, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
See-Saw Films has released a soundtrack album for BBC’s and the Sundance Channel’s mini-series Top of the Lake. The album features the original score from the seven-part series composed by Mark Bradshaw (Bright Star). Also included are songs by Howlin’ Wolf, Smokie, Straitjacket Fits, Georgi Kay and Split Enz. Temporary Residence Ltd will release soundtrack album for David Gordon Green’s indie comedy Prince Avalanche. The album features the film’s original score composed by post-rock instrumentalists Explosions in the Sky (Friday Night Lights) and David Wingo (Mud, Take Shelter) who has previously collaborated with the director on such films as The Sitter, All the Real Girls and George Washington. Dario Marianelli is currently scoring the upcoming drama A Long Way Down. The film based on the novel by Nick Hornby (About a Boy, High Fidelity) marks the English language directing debut of French filmmaker Pascal Chaumeil. Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul, Rosamund Pike, Sam Neill and Imogen Poots are starring in the movie, which follows four strangers who meet on New Year’s Eve on the top of a London skyscraper, who each had intended to jump off but make a pact to stay alive and help each other. Jack Thorne adapted the material for the screen. Finola Dwyer (An Education) and Amanda Posey (Fever Pitch) are producing the project for Wildgaze Films.
MovieScore Media’s Screamworks Records will release a soundtrack album for the horror sequel The Last Exorcism: Part II. The album features the film’s original score composed by Michael Wandmacher (Piranha 3D, Drive Angry, My Bloody Valentine). Glassnote Records will release the soundtrack album for the heist thriller Now You See Me. The soundtrack features the film’s original score composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Fast Five, The Expendables). Also included is Two Door Cinema Club’s Sun, Phoenix’s Entertainment and a remix of Tyler’s score by Robert DeLong.
