Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:

rio-2Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel Rio 2 directed by Carlinhos Brown and featuring the voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, will.i.am, Jemaine Clement, Rodrigo Santoro, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Leslie Mann, Jamie Foxx, Rita Moreno, Bruno Mars and Kristin Chenoweth. The film’s original’s music is composed by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon) and Sergio Mendes serves as the film’s executive music producer. Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film. Check out our previous article for the full album details. draft-dayAlso opening wide is the sports drama Draft Day directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary, Frank Langella, Sam Elliot, Sean Combs, Terry Crews, Ellen Burstyn and Chadwick Boseman. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2) has composed the film’s original music. Rachel Portman to Score ‘Dolphin Tale 2’

dolphin-taleRachel Portman has been tapped to score the upcoming family movie sequel Dolphin Tale 2. The film is written and directed by Charles Martin Smith and stars Harry Connick, Jr., Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman, Kris Kristofferson, Nathan Gamble, Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Austin Stowell. The sequel takes place a couple of years after the first movie and follows the team at Clearwater on a search to find a companion for Winter before they lose her to another aquarium. Broderick Johnson & Andrew A. Kosove (Prisoners, The Blind Side, The Book of Eli) is producing the Alcon Entertainment production with Richard Ingber. Read the rest of this entry »

’13 Sins’ Soundtrack Details

13-sinsScreamWorks Records will release a soundtrack album for the horror thriller 13 Sins. The album features the film’s original music composed by Michael Wandmacher (My Bloody Valentine 3D, Drive Angry, The Goldbergs). The soundtrack will be released on April 15, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. 13 Sins is directed by Daniel Stamm and stars Mark Webber, Ron Perlman, Rutina Wesley, Devon Graye, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Richard Burgi and Tom Bower. The remake of the Thai thriller 13: Game of Death follows a man who is offered a chance to will a substantial cash prize if he can complete 13 challenges. The thriller premiered last month at the SXSW Film Festival will be released in select theaters on April 18 by the Weinstein Company’s Radius label and is now also available on VOD. Elliot Goldenthal’s Othello Symphony to Be Released

othello-symphonyZarathustra Music will release Academy Award-winning composer Elliot Goldenthal‘s Othello Symphony based on the ballet he composed in 1998. Last year, the composer of such films as Frida, Interview with a Vampire, Heat, Public Enemies and Alien 3 adapted the music into a proper concert piece, which was recorded with the AUKSO Orchestra of Tychy Poland at Alvernia Studios in Krakow. The recording will be released on May 6 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Earlier this month, the composer’s label also released String Quartet No. 1 “The Stone Cutters” and Early Chamber Works, which includes includes world premiere recordings of Goldenthal’s 1980 Sonata for Bass and Piano and 1974 Three Pieces for Solo Piano, as well as the Extension Ensemble performing Goldenthal’s Second Brass Quintet. ‘Godzilla’ Soundtrack Details

godzillaThe details of the soundtrack album for the monster movie Godzilla have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). The soundtrack will be released on May 13, 2014 by WaterTower Music and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be posted on this page soon. Godzilla is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The Legendary Pictures production pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence. Victor Reyes Scoring ‘The Atticus Institute’

atticus-instituteVictor Reyes has recently composed the score for the supernatural thriller The Atticus Institute. The film written and directed by Chris Sparling (ATM) is set in 1976 and revolves around a parapsychology lab which uncovered the supernatural abilities of Judith Winstead, a patient possessed with dark forces. The movie’s cast includes Rya Kihlstedt, Aaron Craven, William Mapother and Laurent Rubin. Peter Safran (The Conjuring, Meet the Spartans, Vampires Suck) is producing the project. Blake Neely to Score The CW’s ‘The Flash’

the-flashBlake Neely has been hired to score the pilot of the upcoming CW drama The Flash. The show is based on the DC Comic and stars Grant Gustin as scientist Barry Allen who is given the power of super speed that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive, known as The Flash. Jesse L. Martin, Candice Patton, Tom Kavanagh, Danielle Panabaker, Rick Cosnett and Carlos Valdes are co-starring. Greg Berlanti  is executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter (The X-Files, Smallville). The Flash character was introduced in the CW’s Arrow, which Neely has been scoring for the past two years.  Read the rest of this entry »

Relativity Music Group to Release ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ Soundtrack

dragon-2Relativity Music Group will release the soundtrack album for DreamWorks Animation’s sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2. The film’s music is composed by John Powell (The Bourne Trilogy, Rio, Happy Feet) who recently recorded his music at Air Studios in London. The composer who received his first Academy Award nomination for his score for the first part in the series has reportedly collaborated with Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi on the sequel. The soundtrack album for the original 2010 film was released by Varese Sarabande. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is directed by Dean DeBlois and features the voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Kasper Winding Scoring ‘The Salvation’ and Lone Scherfig’s ‘Posh’

the-salvationKasper Winding has recently recorded his score for the upcoming western The Salvation at Abbey Road Studios in London. The film is directed by Kristian Levring (Fear Me Not) and stars Mads Mikkelsen, Eva Green, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jonathan Pryce, Eric Cantona, Mikael Persbrandt, Douglas Henshall and Michael Raymond-James. The movie is set in 1870s America where a settler kills his family’s murderer and unleashes the fury of a notorious gang leader. Levring has co-written the screenplay with Anders Thomas Jensen (In a Better World, Brothers). Sisse Graum Jørgensen (The Hunt, A Royal Affair) is producing the project for Zentropa Productions. Heather McIntosh to Score ‘Z for Zachariah’

heather-mcintoshHeather McIntosh has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi thriller Z for Zachariah. The film is directed by Craig Zobel and stars Chris Pine, Margot Robbie and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The movie based on the novel by Robert O’Brien of the same title is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows a young woman who lives on a farm believing she is the last of the human race and whose world is turned upside down when two strangers wander in from the forest. Nissar Modi has written the Black List-honored screenplay. Tobey Maguire & Matthew Plouffe are producing the project for Material Pictures, alongside Skuli Malmquist & Thor Sigurjonsson for Zik Zak Filmworks and Joni Sighvatsson (Brothers, K-19: The Widowmaker) for Palomar Pictures.
