A soundtrack album was released for the hit animated feature The Nut Job. The album features the film’s original music composed by Paul Intson who recorded his score with a 62-piece orchestra and a 13-piece big band. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. The Nut Job is directed and co-written by Peter Lepeniotis and features the voice talent of Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Liam Neeson, Katherine Heigl, Stephen Lang, Sarah Gadon and Jeff Dunham. The movie follows the exploits of a feisty squirrel who must leave his park homeland and find the means to survive in the big city. The animated feature is currently playing in theaters nationwide. The only movie opening in wide release this weekend is the action thriller I, Frankenstein written and directed by Stuart Beattie and starring Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski, Miranda Otto and Jai Courtney. The film’s original score is composed by Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil (Cloud Atlas, One Hour Photo). Lisa Gerrard has composed additional music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the score earlier this week. Check out our previous article for the full album details and audio clips. Opening in around 400 theaters is the indie drama Gimme Shelter written and directed by Ron Krauss and starring Vanessa Hudgens, Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser, James Earl Jones, Ann Dowd and Dascha Polanco. Olafur Arnalds (Broadchurch, Another Happy Day) has composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album featuring his score is set to be released next week. The series is directed by Mat Whitecross (Road to Guantanamo) and stars Dominic Cooper as Ian Fleming, alongside Laura Pulver, Lesley Manville, Rupert Evans, Annabelle Wallis, Anna Chancellor, Samuel West and Camilla Rutherford. The four-parter follows the author’s time with the British Naval Intelligence, which inspired him to invent super-spy James Bond. James Horner’s ‘New Work for Four Horns’ to Premiere in London

The London Philharmonic Orchestra has announced that a new concert piece composed by Academy Award-winning film composer James Horner (Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind) will premiere at the Royal Festival Hall in London on March 27, 2015. The composer’s “new work for four horns” will be performed by musicians David Pyatt, John Ryan, James Thatcher and Richard Watkins and will be conducted by Jaime Martín. The event will also feature performances of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet (Fantasy Overture) and Rimsky Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Lorne Balfe has signed on to score the upcoming thriller Captive. The film is directed by Jerry Jameson and stars David Oyelowo, Kate Mara, Leonor Varela and Mimi Rogers. The movie centers on the true story of Brian Nichols who broke out of a courthouse jail in 2005 and shot dead the judge assigned to his case as well as a court reporter, sheriff’s deputy and FBI officer. Riz Ortolani has passed away at age 87. The Italian composer scored around 200 films both in home country, as well as the United States, England and Germany. He received two Academy Awards for the original songs More from 1962’s Mondo cane and Till Love Touches Your Life from the 1970 western Madron. He was also Golden Globe-nominated for his Madron song, as well as the title song from Buena Sera, Mrs. Campbell and his score for the Ingrid Bergman- and Shirley MacLaine-starring 1964 comedy The Yellow Rolls-Royce. He won a Golden Globe for the song Forget Domani from the same film. His score for Mondo cane also earned him a Grammy nomination. His other film scoring credits include 1964’s The 7th Dawn starring William Holden, the 1966 British comedy The Spy with the Cold Nose and the 1965 western The Glory Guys. In recent years, his music was chosen by Quentin Tarantino and used in the director’s Kill Bill features, as well as Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained. Read the rest of this entry »

ABKCO Records will release the official soundtrack album for Wes Anderson’s comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel. The album features the film’s original music composed by Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Argo, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) who previously collaborated with the director on The Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom. Also included are a number of folk music tracks used in the movie. The soundtrack will be released on March 4, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Max Richter has been hired to score the upcoming romantic thriller Paradise Lost. The movie is written and directed by Andrea di Stefano and stars Josh Hutcherson as a young American surfer who takes a trip to Colombia and falls in love with a beautiful local girl. Ellie Goulding to Perform on ‘Divergent’ Soundtrack

Ellie Goulding has announced that she has recorded the original song Beating Heart for the film adaptation of the young adult novel Divergent. She also announced on ABC’s Good Morning America today that she will be the “musical voice” of Shailene Woodley’s character Tris and that her voice will be featured on the instrumental score.
