Dario Marianelli has been hired to score the upcoming adventure drama Everest. The film is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband, 2 Guns) and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, Keira Knightley, Robin Wright, Sam Worthington, Emily Watson, Clive Standen, Martin Henderson, Thomas Wright, Michael Kelly and John Hawkes. The movie is based on the 1996 disaster on Everest that left eight climbers dead and follows the two different expeditions that challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Hollywood Records will release a soundtrack album for Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy. The album, entitled Awesome Mix Vol. 1, features the songs from the film by artists including Blue Swede, David Bowie, Norman Greenbaum, Raspberries, Jackson 5, The Runaways, Elvin Bishop, Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell & more. The soundtrack will be released on July 29, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Polydor/UMe will release the official soundtrack album for the biographical drama Get On Up: The James Brown Story. The album features studio and standout live versions of numerous soul/funk hits by Brown, including such songs as Please Please Please, Out Of Sight, I Got You (I Feel Good), Try Me, It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World and Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine. Also included are two previously unreleased concert recordings heard in the new film. The soundtrack will be released on July 29, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Paramount Pictures has released a soundtrack EP for the sci-fi action adventure Transformers: Age of Extinction. The album features four tracks from the film’s original score composed by Steve Jablonsky (The Island, Battleship, Ender’s Game) who previously scored the first three installments in the Transformers series. The EP is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. A full soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is reportedly in the works. Transformers: Age of Extinction is directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles, Bingbing Li, Titus Welliver and TJ Miller. 2nd Annual Superhero Music Panel at Comic-Con Announced

The line-up of the 2nd Annual Superhero Music Panel has been announced. Six leading Hollywood composers will discuss the process of creating the musical voice behind the superhero, explain the challenges when bringing a comic book character or story to life and writing music to reflect the story line. The panelists will also show film clips of their work. Participating composers include Brian Tyler who scored Marvel’s two features in 2013, Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World and is set to score the biggest movie of his career to date, Avengers: Age of Ultron, John Ottman who most recently composed the music and edited X-Men: Days of Future Past and has previously worked on X2 and the two The Fantastic Four features, as well as Tyler Bates who has Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy coming up and whose previous credits include 300 and Watchmen. ‘Earth to Echo’ Score Album Released

Relativity Music Group has released a score album for the sci-fi family adventure Earth to Echo. The album features the film’s original music composed by Joseph Trapanese (Oblivion, Tron: Uprising, The Raid: Redemption), as well as the original song Worlds Away performed by Dia Frampton. The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon and iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. As previously reported, the label will also release a soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie. Earth to Echo is directed by Dave Green and stars Teo Halm, Brian “Astro” Bradley, Reese Hartwig and Ella Linnea Wahlestedt. The movie follows three inescapable friends who begin receiving a strange series of signals on their phones. The sci-fi adventure will be released nationwide on tomorrow, July 2 by Relativity Media.

Graeme Revell to Score Fox’s ‘Gotham’

Graeme Revell is set to score the upcoming Fox drama Gotham. The show is based on characters from the DC Comics universe and explores the early years of Commissioner James Gordon as an idealistic rookie detective in Gotham City and the rogues’ gallery of villains that made the city infamous. The series’ cast includes Ben McKenzie, Erin Richards, Donal Logue, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Jada Pinkett Smith, Robin Lord Taylor, Sean Pertwee, Zabryna Guevara and Camren Bicondova. Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome) wrote the pilot and will serves as the showrunner. He is also executive producing the Warner Bros. Television production with John Stephens (Gossip Girl). Hans Zimmer to Be Honored at Zurich Film Festival

Hans Zimmer will be honored with a a special Lifetime Award at the Zurich Film Festival. The Academy Award-winning composer will receive the award on October 1, 2014 during a public event at the Tonhalle Zurich. The event will also feature the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich performing the works of the Golden Eye for ‘Best International Film Music 2014’ finalists, as well as excerpts from some of Hans Zimmer’s most legendary scores, including those for The Lion King and Gladiator. Zimmer whose other scores include The Dark Knight, Inception, Driving Miss Daisy, The Last Samurai, Pirates of the Caribbean, and most recently, Man of Steel, Rush and 12 Years a Slave, has a personal connection to Switzerland, having attended private school there in his teens. Jesse Novak has been tapped to score the upcoming Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman. The animated comedy centers around whiskey-drinking humanoid horse and former TV star BoJack who deals with his personal crises with a human sidekick and a feline agent and ex-lover. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are composing the music for the upcoming French drama Far from Men (Loin des hommes). The film is written and directed by David Oelhoffen and stars Viggo Mortensen and Reda Kateb. The movie is inspired by the short story The Host from French-Algerian philosopher Albert Camus’ book Exile and the Kingdom and follows a French teacher in a small Algerian village in 1957 during Algeria’s war of independence from France. Marc du Pontavice & Matthew Gledhill (War of the Buttons) are producing the project for One World Films.
