Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

chappieOpening in most theaters is the sci-fi thriller Chappie co-written and directed by Neill Blomkamp and starring Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, Ninja and Yo-Landi Visser, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Gladiator, Inception). Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and additional music by Steve Mazzaro & Andrew Kawczynski digitally next Tuesday and physically on March 17. second-best-exotic-marigold-hotelAlso opening wide is the comedy drama The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel directed by John Madden and starring Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle, David Strathairn and Richard Gere. Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, American Beauty) who previously scored the 2012 original movie has composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie. ‘The Gunman’ Soundtrack Details

the-gunmanSilva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for the thriller The Gunman. The album features the film’s original music composed by Marco Beltrami (Scream, World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma, The Wolverine, The Hurt Locker). The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 24, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. A physical version is set to come out in April. The Gunman is directed by Pierre Morrel (Taken), produced by Joel Silver and stars Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Jasmine Trinca. The movie is based on the novel The Prone Gunman by Jean-Patrick Manchette and follows a former special forces officer who is suffering from PTSD and must make a run across Europe to clear his name. ‘The Longest Ride’ Soundtrack Details

The album features the songs from the film by artists such as Seafret, Ryan Adams, Ben & Ellen Harper, Middle Brother, Adanowsky, Nikki Lane, The Wild Feathers, Pistol Annies, Black Pistol Fire & more. The soundtrack will be released on April 7, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Longest Ride directed by George Tillman, Jr. is based on the bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks and stars Britt Robertson, Scott Eastwood, Jack Huston, Oona Chaplin and Alan Alda.  The movie centers on the relationship between a former champion bull rider looking to make a comeback and a college student who is about to embark upon her dream job in the art world of New York City. Ludwig Göransson to Score ‘Rocky’ Spinoff ‘Creed’

ludwig-goransson.jpgLudwig Göransson has been tapped to score the upcoming boxing drama Creed. The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Anthony Bellew. Stallone stars in his iconic role as Rocky Balboa who acts a trainer for the grandson of Apollo Creed, portrayed by Carl Weathers in 1976’s original Rocky film. Coogler has also co-written the screenplay with Aaron Covington. Robert Chartoff (Rocky series, Ender’s Game, The Gambler) is producing the project with Irwin Winkler (Goodfellas, The Right Stuff, Life as a House), Charles and David  Winkler & William Chartoff (The Mechanic), Stallone and Kevin King Templeton (The Expendables, Rambo). GSPO to Perform ‘A Spoonful of Sherman: A Symphonic Concert’

spoonful-of-shermanOn Sunday, March 15, the Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) will perform A Spoonful of Sherman: A Symphonic Concert at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. The event will feature performances of the songs by the sibling songwriting team of Richard and Robert Sherman who penned some of the most memorable melodies in the Walt Disney songbook, including It’s A Small World and music for Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Winnie the Pooh and The Jungle Book. A quintet of dynamic vocalists and a children’s chorus will be joining the GSPO and Richard Sherman himself will make a special appearance. ‘The Face of an Angel’ Soundtrack Details

The album features the film’s original music composed by Harry Escott (Shame, Hard Candy, A Might Heart, Welcome to the Punch). Also included is Mi Fido Di Te performed by Lorenzo “Jovanotti” Cherubini. The soundtrack will be released overseas on March 30, 2015 and is now available as an import on Amazon. No word yet on a domestic release date. The Face of an Angel stars Daniel Brühl, Kate Beckinsale, Valerio Mastandrea and Cara Delevingne. Soundtrack for NBC’s ‘Chuck’ to Be Released

The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Tim Jones (Human Target, The Death and Life of Bobby Z). Also included are three songs by the cover band Jeffster feat. Jeff Barnes (played by Scott Krinsky) and Lester Patel (Vik Sahay). The soundtrack will be released on April 7, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Chuck created by Chris Fedak & Josh Schwartz and stars Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin and Joshua Gomez. The album features the songs from the film performed by Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Coffee, Kiesza, Charli XCX and Jacob Plant. The soundtrack will be released digitally on March 24, 2015 by Roc Nation Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Home is directed by Tim Johnson (Over the Hedge) and features the voices of Jim Parsons, Steve Martin, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez. The animated feature based on Adam Rex’s book The True Meaning of Smekday centers on a friendly alien race that invades Earth and begins to efficiently reorganize the planet. criminal-activities.jpgKeefus Ciancia is composing the music for the upcoming indie drama Criminal Activities. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Jackie Earle Haley who also stars in the movie alongside John Travolta, Dan Stevens, Michael Pitt, Christopher Abbott and Rob Brown. The drama follows a group of four friends who make a risky investment together that puts them in trouble with the mob. Robert Lowell has written the screenplay. Wayne Rice (Valentine’s Day, Suicide Kings, Dude, Where’s My Car?), Howard Burd and Micah Sparks (4 Minute Mile) are producing the Capacity Pictures, Phoenix Rising Motion Pictures and Producer Capital Fund production.  Read the rest of this entry »
