Walt Disney Pictures has announced today that Alan Menken will be providing the score for the upcoming live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. The film will also feature new original songs co-written by the composer and Sir Tim Rice, as well as new recordings of the songs from the 1991 animated classic that Menken penned with Howard Ashman. The live action version will be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Kinsey, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) and is set to star Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the title roles. Luke Evans will portray Gaston, Emma Thompson will star as Mrs. Potts and Kevin Kline as Belle’s father, Maurice. Josh Gad has been cast to play Lefou. Premiering tonight is E!’s first scripted series The Royals created by Mark Schwahn (One Tree Hill) and starring Elizabeth Hurley, William Moseley, Merritt Patterson, Alexandra Park, Jake Maskall, Tom Austen, Oliver Milburn Sophie Colquhoun and Vincent Regan. The show’s original music is composed by Siddhartha Khosla. The Royals follows a modern-day monarch and head of a fictional British royal family living in the public eye. Alexandre Desplat to Score ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff ‘Rogue One’

Alexandre Desplat revealed in an interview on Radio Classique’s Culture Club that he will be reuniting with director Gareth Edwards on the upcoming Star Wars spinoff feature Rogue One. Felicity Jones is attached to star in the film, which is scripted by Chris Weitz (Cinderella, The Golden Compass). No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie is said to be the first in a series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. Max Richter to Perform U.S. Tour Featuring Music from ‘The Leftovers’

Max Richter will embark on a U.S. mini tour which runs March 22 – 29, 2015. The composer will be performing compositions from HBO’s The Leftovers at select shows along with music from his various solo albums including The Blue Notebooks, Infra, and Vivaldi Recomposed live. First stop will be at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on March 22 (click here to buy tickets), followed by Le Poisson Rouge in New York on March 25 & 26 (click here for more information) and Big Ears in Knoxville, TN on March 28 & 29 (click here for more details). Richter’s music from the first season is available on WaterTower Music. The composer is returning to score the show’s second season, which is set to premiere this summer. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Guaranteed to top the weekend box office is Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Lily James, Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden, Stellan Skarsgard, Holliday Grainger, Sophie McShera, Derek Jacobi and Helena Bonham-Carter. The film’s original music is composed by Patrick Doyle (Sense and Sensibility, Thor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Walt Disney Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well the film’s songs including the original end titles track Strong written by Doyle, Branagh & Tommy Danvers and performed by Sonna Rele. Playing in front of Cinderella is Disney’s new animated short Frozen Fever directed by Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck and featuring the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad. Christophe Beck (Edge of Tomorrow, The Muppets, The Hangover) who scored 2013’s feature has also composed the score for the short film, while Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez have contributed a new original song. Douglas Pipes to Score ‘Krampus’

Legendary Pictures has announced that Douglas Pipes is set to score the upcoming horror comedy Krampus. The film is directed by Michael Dougherty (writer of X2 & Superman Returns) and stars Adam Scott, Toni Collette, Allison Tolman, David Koechner, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania Owen and Krista Stadler. The movie follows a young boy who turns his back on Christmas as his dysfunctional family comes together and clashes over the holidays. When they accidentally unleash the wrath of Krampus — an ancient entity from European folklore — beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own. Dougherty has also co-written the screenplay with Zach Shields and Todd Casey (Thundercats) and is also producing the project with Legendary’s Thomas Tull & Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Pacific Rim, 300: Rise of an Empire) and Alex Garcia. ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ Soundtrack Announced

Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the period drama Far from the Madding Crowd. The album features the film’s original music composed by Craig Armstrong (Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, The Incredible Hulk, Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo & Juliet).
