jimJ. Ralph is composing the music for the upcoming documentary Jim. The film is directed by Brian Oakes and centers on the life and work of American journalist James Foley, who was killed by ISIS terrorists in 2014. Seen through the lens of his close childhood friend, the movie follows Foley as he moves from the front lines and devastated neighborhoods of Syria into the hands of ISIS. Eva Lipman and George & Teddy Kunhardt are producing the project. J. Ralph’s previous scoring credits include Lucky Number SlevinThe Cove and last year’s Meru and Racing Extinction. cooper-barretts-guide-to-surviving-lifePremiering tonight is the Fox comedy Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life created by Jay Lacopo and starring Jack Cutmore-Scott, Meaghan Rath, Charlie Saxton, James Earl, Justin Bartha and Maureen Sebastian. The show’s original music is composed by Jeff Cardoni (The GrinderCSI: Miami, Silicon ValleyJust Friends). bordertownAlso premiering tonight is the animated series Bordertown created by Mark Hentemann, executive produced by Seth MacFarlane and featuring the voice talent of Hank Azaria, Alex Borstein, Missi Pyle, Judah Friedlander and Nicholas Gonzalez. Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO MovieHotel TransylvaniaThe Royal Tenenbaums21/22 Jump Street) is composing the show’s original music. galavantHollywood Records has released the first three songs from Season 2 of the ABC musical comedy Galavant. The songs are written by Academy Award winner Alan Menken (AladdinThe Little MermaidBeauty and the BeastEnchanted) and Glenn Slater and are performed by the series’ cast. The new songs include the track A New Season, which is available to download on Amazon and can be checked out after the jump, as well as the track World’s Best Kiss, which can be downloaded here. Also available now is the song Off with His Shirt, which features guest star Kyle Minogue and is available to download on Amazon. A full soundtrack featuring the songs from the second season will be released later this year. manhattanLakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the WGN America original series Manhattan. The album features selections from the original music from the show’s first season composed by Sigur Rós front man Jónsi & Alex Somers. Also included is music from the drama’s second season composed by Jeff Russo (Fargo) and Zoe Keating. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 8, 2016 and physically on January 29. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. Manhattan is created by Sam Shaw and stars John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, William Petersen, Ashley Zukerman, Rachel Brosnahan, Christopher Denham, Michael Chernus, Harry Lloyd, Katja Herbers, Harry Lloyd, Mamie Gummer and Griffin Dunne. Except for the nationwide expansion of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, which opened in limited release last week, no other movies are opening nationwide this weekend.

anomalisaOpening in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles this week before expanding nationwide later this month is the animated feature Anomalisa  directed by Duke Johnson & Charlie Kaufman and featuring the voices of Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Noonan and David Thewlis. The film’s original music is composed by Carter Burwell (FargoCarol, TwilightTrue Grit, Being John Malkovich). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original songs None of them Are You (feat. lyrics by Kaufman) and Goddess of Heaven. hans-zimmerHans Zimmer is reteaming with Christopher Nolan on the director’s upcoming World War II action thriller Dunkirk. According to Hans-Zimmer.com, the composer has already started working on the film. The project marks Zimmer’s sixth collaboration with Nolan following The Dark Knight trilogyInception and InterstellarDunkirk is set during the legendary evacuation of the northern French city during WWII. Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh are reportedly in talks to star in the movie. becoming-mike-nicholsDavid Lawrence has signed on to score the upcoming documentary Becoming Mike Nichols. The film is directed by Douglas McGrath (EmmaNicholas Nickleby, I Don’t Know How She Does ItInfamous) and shows director, producer and improvisational comedy Mike Nichols’ final and historic interviews filmed just months before his death. The movie documents the early life of Nichols (The GraduateCloserThe BirdcageCharlie Wilson’s War), as he opens up to his friend and director Jack O’Brien about the storied beginnings of his career. McGrath is also producing the project with Frank Rich and Jack O’Brien. Lawrence has previously collaborated with the director on the 2000 comedy Company Men. swiss-army-menAndy Hull and Robert McDowell of the indie rock band Manchester Orchestra have composed the music for the upcoming indie comedy drama Swiss Army Man. The film is directed by Daniel Scheinert & Daniel Kwan and stars Paul Dano, Daniel Radcliffe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The movie follows a hopeless man stranded in the wild who discovers a mysterious dead body. As he realizes the body is the key to his survival, he is forced to convince a dead body that life is worth living. Miranda Bailey (SuperThe Diary of a Teenage Girl) is producing the project with Jonathan Wang, Lawrence Inglee (The MessengerRampart), Amanda Marshall, Eyal Rimmon (Waxwork) and Lauren Mann. ‘Batman’ Live to Projection Concerts Announced

batmanThe 21st Century Symphony Orchestra has announced a concert featuring the world premiere performance of composer Danny Elfman‘s original score for Tim Burton’s 1989 movie Batman starring Michael Keaton & Jack Nicholson performed live to projection. The Academy Award-nominated composer is scheduled to attend the event in person. Batman – Live in Concert will be held on May 20 & 21, 2016 at the KKL Luzern Concert Hall in Lucerne, Switzerland. The music will be performed by the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Choir under the baton of Ludwig Wicki.
