guild-of-music-supervisorsLast night, the 6th Guild of Music Supervisors Awards were handed out at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Jojo Villanueva received the honor in the Best Music Supervision in Motion Picture – Motion Picture Over 25M for his work on F. Gary Gray’s Straight Outta ComptonRandall Poster received the award in the Motion Picture Under 25M category for his music supervision on Todd Haynes’ Carol starring Cate Blanchett & Rooney Mara. In the Motion Picture Under 5M category category, Howard Paar was honored for his work on the indie drama The Diary of a Teenage Girl. For the first time an award for the best song/recording created for a film was given out. The winner in the category was See You Again from Furious 7 written by DJ Frank E, Charlie Puth, Wiz Khalifa and Andrew Cedar. The song previously received a Golden Globe nomination, but was missing from the Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards. In addition, Julie Houlihan, Micki Stern and Suzanne Coffman were the winners in the Best Music Supervision – Documentary category for their music supervision on The Wrecking Crew. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. The movie is said to be related to Matt Reeves’ 2008 feature Cloverfield and follows a young woman who wakes up in a stranger’s basement after a car accident and is told her life was saved from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.
