Academy Awards producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin today announced that Harold Wheeler was selected as music director for this year’s 88th Oscars. He returns for the third Oscar telecast, his first as music director. Wheeler is best known as an orchestrator, composer, conductor, record producer and arranger and has received numerous Emmy and Tony Award nominations. His television credits include the People’s Choice Awards, the AFI’s 100 Years… series, and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. ‘Vinyl’ Vol. 1.2 Soundtrack Released

Atlantic Records has released a new EP for the HBO original series Vinyl. The soundtrack features the songs from the second episode of the show by The Del-Tino’s, Aimee Mann, Jerry Lee Lewis, Julian Casablancas and Don Covay. The EP is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. The label has previously released a full soundtrack album for the show and over the next couple of weeks will release new EPs every week with the songs from each episode. Vinyl created by Terence Winter, executive produced by Martin Scorsese and starring Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Ato Essandoh, P. J. Byrne, J. C. Alexandre Desplat Scoring ‘France’ Documentary

Alexandre Desplat is scoring the upcoming French documentary France (Les habitants). The film is directed by Raymond Depardon (Journal de France) and follows the filmmaker as he drives through France, from the north to the south, and stops in front of homes and places of business to meet the people of France. ‘Girls’ Vol. 3 Soundtrack Details

Interscope Records will release a new soundtrack album for the HBO original series Girls. The album features a selection of songs from the show by artists including Ellie Goulding, Bleachers and Grimes, St. Vincent, BØRNS, Lucy Rose, Casey Veggies, Matrimony, Christine and the Queens & more. Also included are two tracks from the show’s original score composed by Michael Penn (Masters of Sex, Boogie Nights). The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) announced today that composer Craig Armstrong will be honored at the 31st Annual Screen Music Awards (previously known as ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards) on March 24, 2016 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Armstrong will receive the Henry Mancini Award, which is given to composers for outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of music for film, television and visual media. The composer is known for his numerous collaborations with director Baz Luhrmann, including Romeo & Juliet, The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge!, for which he received a Golden Globe and BAFTA Award. The movie is based on the book by Christy Beam and follows a woman whose daughter has a rare, incurable disease and becomes a ferocious advocate for her child’s healing as she searches for a solution. Randy Brown (Trouble with the Curve) has written the screenplay. Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Oz the Great and Powerful), T.D. Soundtrack Album for John Woo’s ‘The Crossing’ Announced

A soundtrack album will be released for John Woo’s epic drama The Crossing. The album features the film’s original music composed by Taro Iwashiro who previously collaborated with the director on 2008’s Red Cliff. Also included are two different versions of Song of Autumn Silver Grass performed by Hitomi Yaida. The soundtrack will be released in Asia on March 11, 2016 and is now available for pre-order as an import on Amazon. The Crossing stars Zhang Ziyi, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Song Hye-kyo, Huang Xiaoming, Tong Dawei and Masami Nagasawa. The movie is set against the upheavals of revolutionary China in 1949 and tells the story of three couples from different backgrounds who find themselves on the ocean liner “Taiping,” which sinks during the crossing between mainland China and Taipei.
