Dan Romer announced this week on Twitter that he has recently scored the upcoming Netflix original series Atypical. The show is created by Robia Rashid (The Goldbergs) and stars Keir Gilchrist, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Rapaport, Brigette Lundy-Paine and Amy Okuda. The comedy drama revolves around a 18-year-old on the autism spectrum, who takes a funny, yet painful, journey of self-discovery for love and independence and upends his family. Director Amma Asante revealed on Twitter that composer Anne Chmelewsky is currently recording her score for the upcoming period drama Where Hands Touch. The film is written and directed by Asante and stars Amandla Stenberg, George Mackay and Abbie Cornish. The movie takes place in Germany in 1944 where a 15-year-old girl, daughter of a white German mother and a black father, lives in fear due to the color of her skin and falls in love with the son of a prominent SS officer. The Roots have recorded the original song It Ain’t Fair for Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming dramatic thriller Detroit. The hip hop group collaborated with singer/songwriter Bilal on the track, which will be featured in the movie and on the official soundtrack album, which will be released by Motown Records later this month. Three new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel Despicable Me 3 directed by Pierre Coffin, Kyle Balda & Eric Guillon and featuring the voices of Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Jenny Slate and Julie Andrews. The film’s original score is composed by Heitor Pereira (The Angry Birds Movie, The Smurfs) and Pharrell Williams wrote the movie’s original songs. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack featuring the songs (click here for more information) and Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack featuring Pereira’s score (click here for the full details).
Already playing in theaters since this past Wednesday is the action comedy Baby Driver written and directed by Edgar Wright and starring Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Jon Bernthal, Eiza González, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. Steven Price (Gravity, Suicide Squad, Fury, Attack the Block) wrote the film’s original score. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by artists including Simon & Garfunkel, Blur, Kid Koala, Sky Ferreira, The Beach Boys, T. Television Academy Celebrates TV Music at ‘Words + Music’ Concert

Last night, the Television Academy presented its second live concert, Words + Music – A Concert Celebrating Music Written for Television. The event, which celebrated the importance of original songs and scores in television and was conceived and organized by Television Academy Music Governor Michael A. Levine, music director Rickey Minor and produced by Ben Carter, took place at the Saban Media Center’s Wolf Theatre at the Television Academy’s campus in North Hollywood. David Buckley to Score ‘Papillon’ Remake

David Buckley is composing the music for the upcoming remake of the 1973 classic Papillon. The film is directed by Michael Noer (R, Northwest) and stars Charlie Hunnam, Rami Malek, Tommy Flanagan, Michael Socha and Nikola Kent. The movie is a modern retelling of the original, which was based on the memoirs of convicted felon and fugitive Henri Charriere. Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) wrote the screenplay. Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the horror thriller Jasmine. The album features the film’s original music composed by Shie Rozow (Rebel, Ballistica). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 14, 2017. The download link will be added this article within the next few weeks. Jasmine is co-written and directed by Dax Phelan and stars Jason Tobin, Byron Mann, Grace Huang, Eugenia Yuan, Glen Chin and Sarah Lian. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, Fright Night) and stars Margot Robbie as figure skater Tonya Harding, Sebastian Stan as her spouse Jeff Gillooly, Allison Janney as her mother Lavona, as well as Paul Walter Hauser, Mckenna Grace, Caitlin Carver and Julianne Nicholson. The movie centers around Harding’s attack on rival Nancy Kerrigan, which was aimed at breaking Kerrigan’s leg so she couldn’t compete in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. ‘Castlevania’ Soundtrack Details

The full details of the first soundtrack album for the Netflix animated series Castlevania have been revealed. The album the show’s original music composed by Emmy Award winner Trevor Morris (Immortals, Vikings, Iron Fist, Olympus/London Has Fallen, The Borgias). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 7, 2017 and physically a few weeks later. Visit Amazon to pre-order the CD. Castlevania based on the Konami video games is developed by comic book writer Warren Ellis and features the voices of Richard Armitage, James Callis, Graham McTavish, Alejandra Reynoso, Matt Frewer and Tony Amendola.
