Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Happytime Murders directed by Brian Henson and starring Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale and Elizabeth Banks. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, Lost in Space, Ride Along, Agent Carter, Sausage Party). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Also opening wide is the sci-fi family adventure A.X.L. written and directed by Oliver Daly and starring Alex Neustaedter, Becky G and Alex MacNicoll. Ian Hultquist (Assassination Nation, The Gospel According to Andre, Animals, Ivory Tower, My Blind Brother) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Check out our previous news article for the full album details.
David Buckley is composing the music for the upcoming remake of the 1973 classic Papillon. The film is directed by Michael Noer (R, Northwest) and stars Charlie Hunnam, Rami Malek, Tommy Flanagan, Michael Socha and Nikola Kent. The movie is a modern retelling of the original, which was based on the memoirs of convicted felon and fugitive Henri Charriere. Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) wrote the screenplay. Joey McFarland & Riza Aziz (The Wolf of Wall Street), David Koplan, Ram Bergman (Looper, Brick) and Roger Corbi are producing the project. 
Quartet Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1973 classic drama Papillon directed by Franklin J. Schaffer and starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. The album features the expanded original score from the movie composed by Jerry Goldsmith (Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Omen, Planet of the Apes, L.A. Confidential, Poltergeist, Basic Instinct) who received his sixth Academy Award nomination for his music for the movie, including previously unreleased music. The release includes all music recorded for the movie, including unused cues and alternates, as well as source cues arranged by Alexander Courage and conducted by Goldsmith.
