Sony Classical has announced John Williams: The Anthology – Vol. 1 1969-1990, the first installment of a three-part box set that celebrates the legendary composer and his deep body of work. The 22 discs in Volume 1 showcase Williams’ music for 27 films, including the first three Star Wars movie, the first two Indiana Jones installments, Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman , Born on the Fourth of July, Home Alone, along other titles. Each disc will be housed in a small jacket that can hold four discs, featuring cover graphics that showcase the original artwork, just as it appeared upon its initial release. Premiering in the U.S. tonight is the British TV series Miss Austen written by Andrea Gibb based on Gill Hornby’s novel and starring Keeley Hawes, Rose Leslie, Patsy Ferran, Phyllis Logan, Synnøve Karlsen, Max Irons, Jessica Hynes, Alfred Enoch, Kevin McNally, Calam Lynch, Mirren Mack and Liv Hill. The show’s original music is composed by Dominik Scherrer (The Missing, The Tourist, The Widow, Primeval, Baptiste, The Serpent, Ripper Street, The Confessions of Frannie Langton, Requiem). Dubois Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score this past February following its debut in the UK on BBC One. Premiering on Thursday, May 8, is the Netflix original series Forever created by Mara Brock Akil based on Judy Blume’s novel of the same name and starring Lovie Simone, Michael Cooper Jr., Karen Pittman, Xosha Roquemore, Wood Harris, Marvin Winans III, Niles Fitch, Ali Gallo, Adriyan Rae, Barry Shabaka Henley, Paigion Walker, E’myri Crutchfield and Xavier Mills. Gary Gunn (A Thousand and One, Quad Gods, Maggie Black, David Makes Man, Master of Light) has composed the show’s original music. Agence Gaspard has released a soundtrack album for the French comedy Better Days (Des jours meilleurs). The album features the film’s original music composed by Clémence Ducreux (Enjoy!, Se crasher pour exister). Siddhartha Khosla (Only Murders in the Building, Paradise, This Is Us, Welcome to Chippendales, The Idea of You, Rabbit Hole, Looking for Alaska) has provided the original score for the new Prime Video documentary special Octopus!. The 2-parter is directed by Niharika Desai (The Principles of Pleasure), narrated by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and centers on one of the most intelligent and mysterious life forms on Earth as it follows the Giant Pacific Octopus from birth to death. The special features an eclectic mix of characters who have their own unique connections to these creatures, from the explorer trying to understand them, the scientist trying to save them to actor/comedian Tracy Morgan who is obsessed with them. Hollywood Records & Marvel Music have released a soundtrack album featuring the band’s score this past Wednesday. The full details of the soundtrack album for the movie musical Juliet & Romeo have been revealed. The album features the film’s original songs written and produced by Evan Bogart & Justin Gray (Spinning Gold). The soundtrack will be released digitally next Friday, May 9 by Lakeshore Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A first song (The Mask I Wear) has already been released as a digital single last week and a second track (Beat the Same performed by lead actors Clara Rugaard & Jamie Ward) has just been released today and can also been checked out after the jump. Varese Sarabande has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1983 miniseries The Thorn Birds based on best-selling novel of the same name by Colleen McCullough, directed by Daryl Duke and starring Richard Chamberlain, Rachel Ward, Barbara Stanwyck, Christopher Plummer, Jean Simmons, Piper Laurie, Richard Kiley, Mare Winningham, Bryan Brown and Philip Anglim.
