Premiering on Friday, January 5, in the U.S. is the horror thriller Before I Wake co-written and directed by Mike Flanagan and starring Kate Bosworth, Thomas Jane, Annabeth Gish, Dash Mihok and Jacob Tremblay. The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Life of Crime, Gerald’s Game) have composed the film’s original score and Danny Elfman (Spider-Man, Batman, Alice in Wonderland) has provided the themes and additional music. Joseph Stephens is composing the score for the upcoming comedy Arizona. The film marks the directorial debut of Jonathan Watson and stars Danny McBride, Rosemarie DeWitt, Luke Wilson, Lolli Sorenson, Elizabeth Gillies and Kaitlin Olson. The movie is set in the midst of the 2009 housing crisis and follows a single mom and struggling realtor whose life goes off the rails when she witnesses a murder. Luke Del Tredici (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) wrote the screenplay.

The only movie opening nationwide this week is the dramatic thriller All the Money in the World directed by Ridley Scott and starring Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer, Mark Wahlberg, Romain Duris, Charlie Plummer and Timothy Hutton. The film’s original music is composed by Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs, Molly’s Game, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Gold). Varese Sarabande will release the official soundtrack album for the action thriller The Commuter. The album features the film’s original music composed by Roque Banos (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead, In the Heart of the Sea, The Machinist, Sexy Beast). Decca Records has released the main title theme for the new BBC & AMC limited series McMafia. The track is written by the show’s composers Tom Hodge and Franz Kirmann and is performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra. The theme has been released overseas as a digital single, which also features the composers’ track He’s Home, and is now available to download in the
Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the French action thriller Burn Out. The album features the film’s original music composed by Grégoire Auger (Scribe). The soundtrack is now available to download on
A soundtrack album will be released for the Black Mirror episode Hang the DJ. The album features the original music from the episode composed by Alex Somers (Captain Fantastic, Aloha, Manhattan). Also included are two tracks by Sigur Rós. The soundtrack will be released digitally on December 30 and is now available for pre-order on
Marco Beltrami is composing the music for the upcoming National Geographic documentary Free Solo. The film is directed by Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (Meru) and revolves around rock climber Alex Honnold as he is training on Freerider for the first ever rope-free climb of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Chin & Chai Vasarhelyi are also producing the project with Evan Hayes, Walter Parkes & Laurie MacDonald (Men in Black, The Ring, Flight) and Shannon Dill.
