John Williams confirmed in a recent interview with Variety that he will be returning to score the final installment in the third Star Wars trilogy. The currently untitled Episode IX will reunite him with director J.J. Abrams who previously helmed 2015’s The Force Awakens. Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac are set to star in the movie, which will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy. Tuomas Kantelinen has been hired to score the upcoming historical epic Swords and Sceptres. The film marks the directorial debut of Indian choreographer Swati Bhise and stars Rupert Everett, Derek Jacobi, Nathaniel Parker, Ben Lamb, Jodhi May and Devika Bhise who also co-wrote the screenplay with the director and Olivia Emden. The movie tells the story of Rani Lakshmibai, the Queen of Jhansi, who led her army against the East India Company in the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny. For the past few years, scoring mixers have been recognized alongside production, re-recording, ADR and foley mixers. Laura Karpman has recently recorded her score for the upcoming Netflix original movie Set It Up. The film is directed by Claire Scanlon and stars Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Taye Diggs and Lucy Liu. The romantic comedy revolves around two overworked assistants who try to get their horrible bosses out of their hair by setting them up together. Katie Silberman wrote the screenplay. Mark Isham (Crash, Once Upon a Time, A River Runs Through It) and BT (The Fast and the Furious, Monster) have recently scored two episodes of the new Amazon original series Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams. The composers collaborated on the music for the episodes Autofac starring Juno Temple, Janelle Monae & David Lyons, and Isham also scored the episode Safe and Sound. In addition, Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, Happy Death Day, The Walking Dead) has scored three episodes including the Dee Rees-helmed Kill All Others, as well as Real Life and Impossible Planet, both of which already aired in the UK on Channel 4. Photek is composing the score for the upcoming romantic drama Life in a Year. The film is directed by Mitja Okorn (Letters to Santa, Planeta Singli) and stars Jaden Smith, Cara Delevingne, Cuba Gooding Jr., Chris D’Elia and Nia Long. The movie follows a 17-year-old boy who is determined to give his dying girlfriend their entire life together, in the year she has left. Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews wrote the screenplay. Marc Bienstock (Split, The Visit) is producing the project with Will Smith’s & James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment (I Am Legend, The Karate Kid, The Pursuit of Happiness). Intrada Records has announced a new expanded soundtrack album for the 1991 action adventure Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves directed by Kevin Reynolds and starring Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater, Alan Rickman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michael McShane and Nik Brimble. The album features the original music from the Warner Bros./Morgan Creek production composed and conducted by Michael Kamen (Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, X-Men, Band of Brothers), including around an hour of previously unreleased music, as well as alternate cues. Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the Nat Geo original mini-series The Long Road Home. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed and conducted by Emmy Award winner Jeff Beal (House of Cards, Monk, Rome, Pollock, Appaloosa, Carnivale). The soundtrack is now available to order as a limited edition 2-CD set on the label’s official website, where you can also check out audio samples. A digital version is also expected to be released. Clark (aka Chris Clark) has composed the music for the new Channel 4 mini-series Kiri. The show is created by Jack Thorne (National Treasure, A Long Way Down, Glue) and stars Sarah Lancashire, Lia Williams, Steven Mackintosh, Lucian Msamati and Felicia Mukasa. The 4-part drama tells the story of the abduction and death of a young black girl, named Kiri, who is soon-to-be-adopted by her white foster family.
