The 11th Guild of Music Supervisors Awards were given out at a virtual ceremony today. Tom MacDougall received the award in the Best Music Supervision in Motion Picture – Motion Picture Over 25M for his work on Pixar’s Soul. Dawn Sutter Madell won the prize in the Motion Picture Under 25M category for her music supervision on George C. Wolfe’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Susan Jacobs was honored in the Motion Picture Under 10M category for her music supervision on Emerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman and Dondrea Erauw & Michael Perlmutter took home the prize in the Motion Picture Under 5M category for their work on Sergio Navarretta’s The Cuban. Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross & Jon Batiste have received their first BAFTA Award for their music for Pixar’s Soul in the Original Score category today at the Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony. They previously received the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award for their work on the animated movie and is also nominated for an Academy Award. Check out Ross’ acceptance speech after the jump. Justin Melland (Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, The Innocence Files, Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, Wrong Man) has recently scored the new Netflix docu-series The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness. The show is directed by Joshua Zeman (Murder Mountain, Cropsey) and centers on the Sons of Sam case that grew into a lifelong obsession for journalist Maury Terry, who became convinced that the murders were linked to a satanic cult. Paul Giamatti is narrating the 4-parter, which features archival news footage, conversations with the people closest to the investigation, and Terry’s own words and case files to tell a cautionary tale of a man who went down a rabbit hole and never came out. The only movie opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sc-fi thriller Voyagers written and directed by Neil Burger and starring Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead, Chanté Adams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Archie Madekwe, Viveik Kalra, Quintessa Swindell, Madison Hu and Colin Farrell. The film’s original music is composed by Trevor Gureckis (Servant, The Goldfinch, Old, Bloodline). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be released next week by Lakeshore Records and will be announced soon. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the horror thriller Held directed by Chris Lofing & Travis Cluff and starring Jill Awbrey and Bart Johnson. Sherri Chung (Batwoman, Blindspot, Riverdale, The Lost Husband) has been tapped to score the upcoming HBO Max animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. The show is developed by Tze Chun and features the voices of Izaac Wang, Ming-Na Wen, BD Wong, James Hong, Gabrielle Green, A.J. LoCascio and Matthew Rhys. The Warner Bros. Animation and Amblin Television production based on Joe Dante’s 1984 feature (scored by Jerry Goldsmith) is set in 1920s Shanghai and tells the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Silva Screen Records has announced a soundtrack album for the ITV mini-series Des. The album features the show’s original music composed by Sarah Warne (Prey, Humans, Dark Money, Time, She’s French, The Drowning). The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 7, 2021 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and other major digital music outlets. Des is written by Luke Neal & Kelly Jones based on the novel Killing For Company by Brian Masters and stars David Tennant, Daniel Mays, Jason Watkins, Alex Bhat, Jay Simpson, Gerard Horan and Ron Cook. The 3-parter directed by Lewis Arnold is based on real life events, the 1983 arrest of Scottish serial killer Dennis Nilsen and one of the most infamous criminal cases in UK history, and focuses on Nilsen’s capture and subsequent trial. John Williams to Score James Mangold’s ‘Indiana Jones 5’

Lucasfilm has confirmed today that John Williams is set to return as the composer of the currently untitled fifth installment in the Indiana Jones film series. The movie will be directed by James Mangold (Logan, Ford v. Ferrari, 3:10 to Yuma) and stars Harrison Ford in the title role, alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge. No other cast members or plot details have been announced yet. The composer was previously attached to score the fifth installment when Steven Spielberg was set to direct the film in 2016 . Spielberg is producing the new movie with Kathleen Kennedy (The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Frank Marshall (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Sixth Sense) and Simon Emanuel (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Witcher). ‘Mortal Kombat’ Soundtrack Album Details

WaterTower Music has announced the full details of the soundtrack album for the new film adaptation of Mortal Kombat. The album features the movie’s original music composed by Grammy Award and Golden Globe nominee Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Blade Runner 2049, Shazam!, Annabelle Creation, Hidden Figures, Lights Out). The soundtrack will be released digitally next Friday, April 16 and will be available to stream/download here. A CD version will be available to order on Amazon. As previously reported, the Wallfisch-produced and -performed Techno Syndrome 2021 remix from the film is already to stream/download now. Mortal Kombat is directed by Simon McQuoid and stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Tadanobu Asano, Chin Han, Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada. Additional Track from Christophe Beck’s ‘WandaVision’ Score Released

Hollywood Records and Marvel Music have released the previously unreleased track Family TV Night from the eighth episode (Previously On) of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ original series WandaVision. The cue was missing from the official Episode 8 soundtrack album and is now available to stream/download as a digital single on all major digital music services (including Amazon).
