iZLER has been tapped to score the upcoming indie drama Growing Up and Other Lies. The film is directed by Danny Jacobs and Darren Grodsky and stars Adam Brody, Wyatt Cenac, Amber Tamblyn, Josh Lawson, Lauren Miller and Jacobs himself. The movie follows a 30-year-old man who recruits his three oldest friends to help him retrace their greatest adventure: walking the entire, 260-block length of the island of Manhattan in one day. Nicole Lederman, Katie Mustard and Jason Weiss are producing the project. iZLER has previously scored Jacobs’ and 2008 feature Humboldt County. Growing Up and Other Lies was shot on location in New York City this past fall and is expected to premiere later this year.

Rob Simonsen Scoring ‘Chu and Blossom’
Rob Simonsen revealed in a recent interview with Sound on Sight that he is currently scoring the indie coming of age comedy Chu and Blossom. The film is directed by Gavin Kelly and Charles Chu and stars Chu himself, as well as Ryan O’Nan, Melanie Lynskey, Alan Cumming, Mercedes Ruehl, Caitlin Stasey, Annie Potts, Chris Marquette, Dan Bakkedahl and Richard Kind. The movie centers on a pensive Korean exchange student and a performance artist who are trapped together in a small town. Chu has also written the screenplay with O’Nan who is also producing the project with Jason Michael Berman, Caroline Connor, Thomas B. Fore. Simonsen has previously scored the drama Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best directed by O’Nan and produced by Berman, Connor and Fore.
David Hirschfelder Scoring ‘The Railway Man’
David Hirschfelder is composing the score for the upcoming drama The Railway Man. The movie is directed by Jonathan Teplitzy (Burning Man) and stars Colin Firth as Eric Lomax, a British officer who was captured and tortured by the Japanese in World War II and is persuaded by his wife to seek out and confront one of his captors a few decades later. Nicole Kidman, Jeremy Irvine, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada are co-starring. Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions, Hilary & Jackie) and Andy Paterson (producer of Girl with a Pearl Earring) have written the screenplay based on Lomax’s autobiography. Paterson is also producing the Australian and British co-production with Chris Brown (The Proposition, Daybreakers) and Bill Curbishley.
‘The Grandmaster’ to Feature Music by Nathaniel Mechaly
Nathaniel Mechaly has composed a new score for the international version of the martial arts epic The Grandmaster. The film is directed by Wong Kar-Wai (In the Mood for Love, My Blueberry Nights) and stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Zhang Ziyi, Chang Chen, Wang Qingxiang, Zhang Jin, Zhao Benshan and Song Hye-kyo. The movie is a biopic of martial artist Ip Man, who practiced the art of Wing Chun and is best known as the man who taught Bruce Lee. Kar-Wai is producing the Jet Tone Films and Sil-Metropole Organization production with Jacky Pang Yee-wah. Shigeru Umebayashi composed a score for the version that was released in China last month.
Patrick Doyle to Score ‘Jack Ryan’
Patrick Doyle has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller Jack Ryan. The reboot of the franchise based on the characters created by Tom Clancy is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Chris Pine in the title role as an ex-Marine who works as a successful financial analyst in Moscow and discovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy, and must race against time to save America and his wife. Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and Branagh himself are co-starring. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers series, Red, Salt) is producing the project with Mace Neufeld (The Hunt for Red October, Invictus) and David Barron (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hamlet).
Mason Daring Scoring ‘Go for Sisters’
Mason Daring is reuniting with director John Sayles on the upcoming indie drama Go for Sisters. The film stars Edward James Olmos, LisaGay Hamilton, Yolonda Ross, Harold Perrineau, Hector Elizondo and Isaiah Washington. The movie follows two friends who lose track of each other for twenty years and are reunited when one of them is assigned as the parole officer for the other, who is fresh out of prison and fighting heroin addiction. Sayles has also written the screenplay and Alejandro Springall, Peter Bobrow and Edward James Olmos are producing. Daring is Sayles’ regular composer and has scored such films as Lone Star, Passion Fish, Sunshine State and Silver City.
David Newman to Score ‘Tarzan’ 3D
David Newman has officially signed on to score the upcoming 3D animated feature Tarzan. The film is directed by Reinhard Klooss and features the voice talent of Kellan Lutz, Spencer Locke, Anton Zetterholm, Mark Deklin, Trevor St. John and Jaime Ray Newman. The updated version of the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs tale is written by Klooss, Jessica Postigo (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) and Yoni Brenner (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs). Klooss is also producing the Constantin Film and Ambient Entertainment production with Robert Kulzer (Resident Evil series, Wrong Turn). Martin Moszckovicz (Carnage) is executive producing. Newman has previously scored the studio’s and the director’s 2010 animated film Animals United.
Chris Hajian to Score ‘Runner, Runner’
Chris Hajian has been hired to score the upcoming thriller Runner, Runner. The film is directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) and stars Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake, Gemma Arterton, Anthony Mackie, Oliver Cooper, Michael Esper and Ben Schwartz. The movie follows a young man cheated out of his tuition money playing online poker who flies to Costa Rica in the hope of reclaiming his losses from the site’s billionaire owner and ends up becoming the corrupt CEO’s right-hand man. Brian Koppelman & David Levien (Rounders, Runaway Jury) are producing New Regency Pictures production with Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Davisson Killoran (The Ides of March, Orphan) for Appian Way and Michael Shamberg & Stacey Sher (Django Unchained, Contagion) for Double Feature Films.
James Horner to Score ‘Ender’s Game’
James Horner has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi tentpole Ender’s Game. The film based on the classic novel by Orson Scott Card is adapted for the screen and directed by Gavin Hood (X-Men: Wolverine, Tsotsi). The movie stars Asa Butterfield as Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, a genius strategist recruited by the government to help destroy an insect-like alien race. Harrison Ford, Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak, Suraj Partha, Conor Carroll and Khylin Rhambo are co-starring. Gigi Pritzker & Linda McDonough (Drive, Rabbit Hole) are producing for OddLot Entertainment and Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) are producing for their K/O Paper Products company.
The Music of ‘Movie 43’
The ensemble all-star comedy Movie 43 produced by Peter Farrelly opened nationwide last weekend. Several composers have composed the score of the different comedy shorts within the film. William Goodrum who has previously contributed music for most of the Farrelly Brothers’ features including There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene, Shallow Hal and most recently, The Three Stooges has scored the overarching segment The Pitch starring Dennis Quaid, Greg Kinnear & Common, as well as the shorts Homeschooled directed by Will Graham and starring Naomi Watts & Liev Schreiber, The Proposition directed by Steve Carr and starring Anna Faris & Chris Pratt, Veronica directed by Griffin Dunne and starring Emma Stone & Kieran Culkin, Middle School Date directed by Elizabeth Banks and starring Chloe Grace Moretz & Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Victory’s Glory directed by Rusty Cundieff and starring Terrence Howard. David J. Hodge has written the score for the segment Superhero Speed Dating directed by James Duffy and starring Justin Long, Jason Sudekis & Kristen Bell, while Goodrum provided additional music.
