Howard Shore has signed on to score the upcoming historical drama The Free State of Jones. The film is written and directed by Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) and stars Matthew McConaughey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keri Russell and Mahershala Ali. The movie is set during the Civil War and tells the story of a defiant Southern farmer and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Ross is also producing the project with Scott Stuber (Ted, Role Models, Safe House) and John Kilik (The Hunger Games, Babel, Foxcatcher).

Clement Animalsons is set to compose the original score for the upcoming comedy drama French Tour (Tour de France). The film is directed by Rachid Djaidani (Rengaine) and will star Gerard Depardieu alongside a yet-to-be announced popular French rapper. The movie follows a French-Arab rapper who has to lie low and reluctantly accepts to drive his producer‘s dad across France for two weeks. Anne-Dominique Toussaint (Two Friends, Caramel, The Hedgehock) is producing the project for Les Films des Tournelles.
Deepa Mehta’s ‘Beeba Boys’ to Feature Music by Mychael Danna, Manjeet Ral & Biggi Hilmars
Mychael Danna, Manjeet Ral and Biggi Hilmars are composing the music for the upcoming drama Beeba Boys. The film is written and directed by Deepa Mehta (Earth, Fire) and stars Randeep Hooda, Ali Momen, Sarah Allen, Waris Ahluwalia, Gulshan Grover, Balinder Johal, Ali Kazmi, Steve Dhillon, Jag Bal, Gabe Grey and Paul Gross. The movie follows a ruthless Sikh mobster who leads his soldiers into a turf war for control of the Vancouver drugs- and arms-trafficking rackets. David Hamilton (Midnight’s Children) is producing the project.
Gast Waltzing Scoring Terence Davies’ ‘Sunset Song’
Gast Waltzing is composing the music for the upcoming drama Sunset Song. The film is written and directed by Terence Davies (The Deep Blue Sea, The House of Mirth) and stars Agyness Deyn, Peter Mullan and Kevin Guthrie. The movie is based on the classic novel by Lewis Grassic Gibbon and follows a farming family struggling to eke out a living in northeast Scotland. Sol Papadopoulos, Roy Boulter, Nicolas Steil are producing the project. Waltzing’s previous film scoring credits include Hysteria starring Maggie Gyllenhaal & Hugh Dancy and JCVD starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Marco Beltrami to Score Timur Bekmambetov’s ‘Ben-Hur’
Marco Beltrami has been hired to score the upcoming epic historical drama Ben-Hur. The film is directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and stars Jack Huston as Judah Ben-Hur, Morgan Freeman as Ilderim, Toby Kebbell as Messala, Nazanin Boniadi as Esther and Rodrigo Santoro and as Jesus Christ. Sofia Black D’Elia, Ayelet Zurer, Moises Arias and Pilou Asbæk are co-starring. The movie is based on Lew Wallace’s epic novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of The Christ and follows a falsely accused nobleman who survives years of slavery to take vengeance on his best friend who betrayed him.
Stephen Rennicks Scoring Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Room’
Stephen Rennicks is reteaming with director Lenny Abrahamson to score the upcoming drama Room. The movie stars Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, Joan Allen, William H. Macy, Sean Bridgers, Tom McCamus and Megan Park. The film is based on the bestselling 2010 novel by Emma Donoghue and is told from the viewpoint of a 5-year-old boy who is being held captive with his mother in a small room. Donoghue has also written the screenplay. Ed Guiney (The Guard, Shadow Dancer) is producing the Element Pictures and No Trace Camping production with David Gross (Goon, What If). Rennicks has previously scored Abrahamson’s previous features, including last year’s Frank starring Michael Fassbender, as well as What Richard Did, Garage and Adam & Paul. Room is set to premiere in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and will be released on October 16, 2015 by A24 Films
Alec Puro to Score ‘The Runaround’
Alec Puro is set to reunite with director Gavin Wiesen on the upcoming indie comedy The Runaround. The movie stars J.K. Simmons, Emile Hirsch and Kristen Schaal. The film centers on a workaholic father who forced to team up with his daughter’s awkward ex-boyfriend to find her over the course of one night when attempts to visit her during a last-minute layover in Los Angeles. Seth W. Owen has written the screenplay. Mandy Tagger Brockey & Adi Ezroni (A Late Quartet, Kelly & Cal) are producing the project with George Voskericyan & J.M.R. Luna, Ron Perlman & Josh Crook and P. Jennifer Dana.
Jeff Toyne to Score ‘Life on the Line’
Jeff Toyne has signed on to score the upcoming indie drama Life on the Line. The film is directed by David Hackl (Saw V, Into the Grizzly Maze) and stars John Travolta, Kate Bosworth and Devon Sawa. The movie follows a crew of eccentric linemen who do the high-wire work of fixing the electrical grid and are hit by a sudden deadly storm. Primo Brown, Dylan Scott and Peter Horton have written the screenplay. Marvin Peart (The Perfect Holiday) and Phillip Glasser are producing the Marro Films production.
Clint Mansell Scoring Dito Montiel’s ‘Man Down’
Last week, Clint Mansell recorded his score for the upcoming psychological thriller Man Down. The film is directed by Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Fighting, The Son of No One) and stars Shia LaBeouf, Kate Mara, Jai Courtney and Gary Oldman. The movie follows a haunted Afghanistan war veteran who attempts to come to terms with his past while searching for his family in a post-apocalyptic America. Adam Simon has written the screenplay. Dawn Krantz, Stephen McEveety (The Passion of the Christ, We Were Soldiers, One Eight Seven) and Jon Burton are producing the project.
Atli Orvarsson to Score ‘Bilal’
Atli Orvarsson has been hired to score the upcoming animated feature Bilal. The film is directed by Khurram Alavi and features the voice talent of Ian McShane, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Thomas Ian Nicholas and Michael Gross. The movie is inspired by the story of the real-life African hero Bilal Ibn Rabah, who, born into slavery in the sixth century, was one of the most trusted companions of the Prophet Muhammad. The project marks the first feature-length animated film from the Dubai-based Barajoun, and also is the first Middle Eastern-funded and -produced animated film.
