A24 announced today that Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu and Matmos have joined Nico Muhly to compose original music and songs for the upcoming sci-fi comedy How to Talk to Girls at Parties. The film will be directed by John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Rabbit Hole) and is set to star Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman and Alex Sharp. The movie is based on a short story by Neil Gaiman and follows a teenage punk rocker in 1970s suburban London who sneaks into a party with his friends where they meet a group of intensely attractive, otherworldly girls from outer space.

Sacha & Evgueni Galperine to Score Barry Sonnenfeld’s ‘Nine Lives’
Sacha and Evgueni Galperine have been tapped to score the upcoming comedy Nine Lives. The film is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black, Get Shorty, The Addams Family) and stars Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Garner, Robbie Amell, Malina Weissman, Christopher Walken and Mark Consuelos. The movie follows a workaholic businessman who has to figure out how to redeem himself after a terrible accident leaves him trapped in the body of his family’s cat. Daniel Antoniazzi and Ben Shiffrin have written the screenplay. Luc Besson (Lucy, The Professional, The Fifth Element) is producing the EuropaCorp production with Christophe Lambert (Saint Laurent, It Boy).
Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman to Write Songs and Score for ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are set to compose original songs for a new Mary Poppins feature, which is currently in development at Disney. They will also be writing a new score. Rob Marshall (Chicago, Into the Woods, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) is attached to direct the movie, which is set 20 years after actions of the 1964 classic movie and will be based in parts on P.L. Travers’ book series. David Magee (Life of Pi, Finding Neverland) is writing the screenplay and John DeLuca (Into the Woods, Nine) and Marc Platt (Drive, Wanted, Legally Blonde) are producing the Walt Disney Pictures production.
Roque Banos to Score Fede Alvarez’s ‘A Man in the Dark’
Roque Banos is set to reteam with director Fede Alvarez on the upcoming horror thriller A Man in the Dark. The film starring Dylan Minnette, Daniel Zovatto, Stephen Lang and Jane Levy follows a group of teens who break into a blind man’s home thinking they will get away with the perfect crime. Alvarez has also written the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Oz the Great and Powerful, Drag Me to Hell) is producing the project for his Ghost House Pictures company alongside Rob Tapert (The Grudge, Xena: Warrior Princess).
Jeff Danna Co-Scoring Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’
Jeff Danna has joined his brother Mychael Danna to co-score Pixar Animation Studios’ upcoming feature The Good Dinosaur. The film is directed by Peter Sohn and features the voices of Raymond Ochoa, Jack Bright, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Elliott, Anna Paquin, Marcus Scribner, A.J. Buckley and Steve Zahn. The movie is set in a world where dinosaurs have never become extinct and follows a young dinosaur who loses himself after falling into a river, sweeping him far away from his home. Denise Ream (Cars 2) is producing the project and John Lasseter serves as an executive producer. The composers’ music is being recorded this week in Los Angeles.
Steve Jablonsky to Score ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’
Steve Jablonsky has been hired to score the upcoming sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. The film is directed by Dave Green (Earth to Echo) and stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett and William Fichtner who reprise their roles from 2014’s original movie, as well as lan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, and Noel Fisher as Raphael, Donatello, Leonardo and Michelangelo. They are joined by Tyler Perry, Laura Linney, Brian Tee, Stephen Amell, Gary Anthony Williams and Brittany Ishibashi. Michael Bay is producing the Platinum Dunes production with Brad Fuller & Andrew Form (The Purge, Ouija, The Last Ship).
Sven Faulconer Scoring Jean-Francois Richet’s ‘Blood Father’
Sven Faulconer is composing the music for the upcoming action thriller Blood Father. The film is directed by Jean-Francois Richet (Assault on Precint 13, Mesrine: Part 1 & 2) and stars Mel Gibson, Elisabeth Rohm, William H. Macy, Diego Luna, Thomas Mann and Erin Moriarty. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Peter Craig (The Town, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) and follows an ex-con who reunites with his estranged 16-year-old daughter, and vows to protect her from the drug dealers who are trying to kill her. Craig has also written the screenplay and Chris Briggs (Hostel, Shark Night 3D) is producing the project with Pascal Caucheteux (A Prophet, Rust and Bone).
John Swihart to Score ‘First Girl I Loved’
John Swihart revealed in a recent interview with Geektown Radio that is reuniting with director Kerem Sanga on the upcoming indie romantic dramedy First Girl I Loved. The film is written and directed by Sanga and stars Dylan Gelula, Brianna Hildebrand, Mateo Arias, Pamela Adlon, Tim Heidecker, Erik Griffin and Cameron Esposito. The movie centers on the relationship of a sarcastic, closeted teenager and a classmate who’s suddenly unsure of her own orientation. Dave Hunter & Ross Putman are producing the project with Seth Caplan (In Search of a Midnight Kiss, The Last Survivors).
Nick Urata Scoring ‘Love the Coopers’
Nick Urata is scoring the upcoming holiday comedy Love the Coopers. The film is directed by Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam, Jessie Nelson) and stars Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Ed Helms, Diane Keaton, Jake Lacy, Anthony Mackie, Amanda Seyfried, June Squibb, Marisa Tomei and Olivia Wilde. The movie, which was originally entitled Let It Snow, follows the exasperated members of an extended family as they attempt to gather for their annual holiday celebration. Steven Rogers (Stepmom, Hope Floats) has written the screenplay.

Ryan Miller has been tapped to score the upcoming indie drama The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving. The film is written and directed by Rob Burnett (The Late Show with David Letterman) and stars Paul Rudd, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Ehle and Craig Roberts. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Jonathan Evison and centers on the touching friendship between a caregiver and a frustrated teenager who is the advance stages with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Donna Gigliotti (Silver Linings Playbook, Shakespeare in Love, The Reader) is producing the project with James Spies (Big Stone Gap).
