Daniel Hart is set to reteam with director David Lowery on the upcoming thriller Old Man and the Gun. The film is written and directed by Lowery and stars Robert Redford, Casey Affleck, Sissy Spacek, Danny Glover, Tom Waits and Tika Sumpter. The movie is based on a short story by David Grann and revolves around an elderly bank robber who escaped from San Quentin at the age of 70 and pulled off an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities. James D. Stern (Looper) is producing the project for Endgame Entertainment, Dawn Ostroff and Jeremy Steckler (Granite Mountain Hotshots) for Condé Nast Entertainment, Anthony Mastromauro (Beer League) for Identity Films, Toby Halbrooks for Sailor Bear and James M. David Newman Scoring Netflix’s ‘Naked’
David Newman is scoring the upcoming Netflix original movie Naked. The comedy is directed by Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House, Fifty Shades of Black) and stars Marlon Waynes, Regina Hall, Jonathan Todd Jackson, Scott Fole, Loretta Devine, Brian McKnight and Dennis Haysbert. The movie is based on the 2000 Swedish film Naken follows a charming man-child who wakes up on his wedding day, naked in an elevator, and relives the hour before the ceremony over and over again. Wayans and Rick Alvarez (White Chicks, Little Man) wrote the screenplay and are also producing the project with Todd Garner (Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Knight and Day) and Ryan Lewis.
Jamie Christopherson to Score Alex Ranarivelo’s ‘Ride’
Jamie Christopherson is reuniting with director Alex Ranarivelo on the upcoming action drama Ride. The film starring Shane Graham, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Sasha Alexander, Ali Afshar, Bryan Craig, George Kosturos and Jessica Michelle is based on the inspiring true story of BMX champion John Buultjens, a young teen who is rescued when he is fostered by an unlikely interracial couple, including the foster father who wins the kid over when he buys him his first bicycle. Ranarivelo also co-wrote the screenplay with Hadeel Reda, Jean-Marie Sobeck and Jack Reher (Into the Grizzly Maze).
Christopher Lennertz to Score Tim Hill’s ‘The War with Grandpa’
Christopher Lennertz is set to reteam with director Tim Hill on the upcoming family comedy The War with Grandpa. The film stars Robert De Niro, Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Christopher Walken, Cheech Marin, Oakes Fegley, Jane Seymour and Faizon Love. The movie is based on the bestselling book by Robert Kimmel Smith and follows a boy who’s forced to move out of his room when his recently widowed grandfather moves in and devises outrageous pranks to make his grandfather surrender the room. Tom J. Astle & Matt Ember (Get Smart, Home) and Dave Johnson wrote the screenplay.
Patrick Doyle Scoring ‘The Emoji Movie’
Patrick Doyle has recently recorded his score for the upcoming animated feature The Emoji Movie. The film is directed by Tony Leondis and features the voices of T.J. Miller, Anna Faris, James Corden, Patrick Stewart, Maya Rudolph, Steven Wright, Rob Riggle, Jennifer Coolidge, Jake T. Austin, Sofia Vergara and Christina Aguilera. The movie revolves around a multi-expressional emoji who sets out on a journey to become a normal emoji. Leondis also co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Siegel and Mike White. Michelle Raimo Kouyate is producing the Sony Pictures Animation production.
Nathan Barr Scoring Stephen Moyer’s ‘The Parting Glass’
Nathan Barr is currently scoring the upcoming indie drama The Parting Glass. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actor Stephen Moyer and stars Anna Paquin, Denis O’Hare, Ed Asner, Cynthia Nixon, Melissa Leo, Rhys Ifans and Paul Gross. The movie follows a family reeling with their sister’s death as they embark on a journey to collect the remnants of her life. O’Hare also wrote the screenplay. Paquin and Moyer are also producing the project for CASM Films, alongside O’Hare, as well as Cerise Hallam (I Could Never Be Your Woman, Free Ride) and Mark Larkin. Barr has previously scored all episodes of HBO’s True Blood, which starred both Moyer and Paquin.
Lorne Balfe to Score ‘Horse Soldiers’
Lorne Balfe has been hired to score the upcoming war drama Horse Soldiers. The film is directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and stars Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Peña, Ben O’Toole, Trevante Rhodes, Austin Stowell, Elsa Pataky, Rob Riggle and Navid Negahban. The movie is based on Doug Stanton’s book of the same title and centers on a U.S. Special Forces team and their captain after they are dispatched to a mountainous region of Afghanistan in the weeks immediately following 9/11. Peter Craig (The Town, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) and Ted Tally (The Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon0 wrote the screenplay.
Johnny Jewel Scoring ‘Don’t Come Back from the Moon’
Johnny Jewel has composed the original music for the upcoming indie drama Don’t Come Back from the Moon. The film marks the feature directorial debut of cinematographer Bruce Thierry Cheung (The Adderall Diaries, In Dubious Battle) and stars Jeffrey Wahlberg, Zackary Arthur, Alyssa Elle Steinacker, Cheyenne Haynes, James Franco and Rashida Jones. The movie revolves around a group of fathers in a small California desert town who abandon their children one by one leaving behind a wake of anger and crime as their sons and daughters come of age. Cheung also wrote the screenplay based on the 2005 novel by Dean Bakopoulos.
Tomandandy Scoring John Leonetti’s ‘Wish Upon’
The composer duo of tomandandy has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming horror thriller Wish Upon. The film is directed by John Leonetti (Annabelle) and stars Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee, Mitchell Slaggert, Shannon Purser, Sydney Park, Kevin Hanchard and Sherilyn Fenn. The movie follows a 16-year-old misfit who finds a magic box that promises a chance at the life she’s always wanted only to discover that each wish would demand a deadly payment. Barbara Marshall (Viral) wrote the screenplay. Sherryl Clark (Cloverfield, Plush) is producing the project for Busted Shark Productions.
Michael Andrews to Return for ‘Daddy’s Home 2’
Michael Andrews is set to compose the original score for the upcoming comedy sequel Daddy’s Home 2. The film is directed by Sean Anders (Horrible Bosses 2, Sex Drive) and stars Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini and John Cena in their roles from the original movie. They are joined by new additions Mel Gibson and John Lithgow. The movie follows Brad and Dusty as they must deal with their intrusive fathers during the holidays. Anders wrote the screenplay with John Morris (We’re the Millers, Hot Tub Time Machine).
