Thomas Newman is set to reteam with director Sam Mendes on the upcoming World War I drama 1917. George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman have been cast in the film. No plot details have been announced yet. Mendes also wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns and is also producing the Amblin Partners production with Pippa Harris (Penny Dreadful, Call the Midwife), Jayne-Ann Tenggren and Callum McDougall (Into the Woods). Newman has previously scored most of Mendes’ previous features, including American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, Skyfall and Spectre.

Joseph Trapanese (Straight Outta Compton, Oblivion, The Greatest Showman, The Raid, Allegiant, Robin Hood) is scoring the upcoming action comedy Stuber. The film is directed by Michael Dowse (Goon, What If) and stars Kumail Nanjiani, Dave Bautista, Iko Uwais, Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino and Karen Gillan. The movie follows a mild-mannered Uber driver who picks up a grizzled cop on the trail of a brutal killer and he’s thrust into a harrowing ordeal.
Kubilay Uner to Score Michael Polish’s ‘Axis Sally’
Kubilay Uner has been hired to score the upcoming drama Axis Sally. The film is directed by Michael Polish (The Astronaut Farmer, Twin Falls Idaho) and stars Al Pacino, Meadow Williams, Thomas Kretschmann, Mitch Pileggi and Lala Kent. The movie is based on William Owen’s book Axis Sally Confidential and tells the true story of Mildred “Axis Sally” Gillars, the American who unwittingly became the voice of German propaganda targeted to U.S. troops during World War II.
Anne Nikitin to Score Liz Garbus’ Netflix Movie ‘Lost Girls’
Anne Nikitin (American Animals, Mrs. Wilson, The Imposter, Calibre, This Beautiful Fantastic) has signed on to score the upcoming Netflix original movie Lost Girls. The film marks the narrative feature directorial debut of Academy Award-nominated documentarian Liz Garbus (What Happened Miss Simone?) and stars Amy Ryan, Gabriel Byrne, Thomasin McKenzie, Lola Kirke, Oona Laurence, Reed Birney, Dean Winters, Miriam Shor, Kevin Corrigan and Rosal Colon. The movie is based on Robert Kolker’s book of the same name and follows Mari Gilbert as she relentlessly drives law enforcement agents to search for her missing daughter and in the process sheds light on a wave of unsolved murders of young female sex workers on the South Shore barrier islands of Long Island.
Marco Beltrami to Score Ang Lee’s ‘Gemini Man’
Marco Beltrami (Logan, A Quiet Place, 3:10 to Yuma, Scream, Free Solo) has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi action thriller Gemini Man. The film is directed by Ang Lee (Life of Pi, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hulk) and stars Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen and Benedict Wong. The movie follows an elite assassin who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move.
Nathan Barr to Score Floria Sigismondi’s ‘The Turning’
Nathan Barr (True Blood, The Americans, Hostel, Cabin Fever) has been hired to score the upcoming supernatural horror movie The Turning. The film is directed by Floria Sigismondi (The Runaways) and stars Mackenzie Davis, Finn Wolfhard, Brooklynn Prince and Joely Richardson. The Amblin Entertainment production is based on Henry James’s novella The Turn of the Screw and follows a young woman hired as the nanny to two orphans is convinced that the country mansion they live in is haunted.
Gast Waltzing Scoring Ivan Kavanagh’s ‘Never Grow Old’
Gast Waltzing (JCVD, Hysteria, George and the Dragon) has composed the original music for the upcoming western Never Grow Old. The film is written and directed by Ivan Kavanagh (The Canal) and stars Emile Hirsch, Déborah François, John Cusack, Danny Webb and Léa Seydoux. The movie centers on a local undertaker who faces a moral dilemma when he profits from the violence caused by a ruthless gang of outlaws who terrorize a sleepy frontier town.
Dan Deacon Scoring ‘Well Groomed’
Dan Deacon has composed the original score for the upcoming documentary Well Groomed. The film is directed by Rebecca Stern and takes place in the world of competitive creative dog grooming. The movie follows four champion groomers and their dogs through a year in the life on the technicolor competition circuit, exploring their creative process. Stern is also producing the project with Justin Levy and Matthew C. Mills. Deacon’s previous film scoring credits include Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt and the documentary Rat Film.
Zach Robinson Scoring Sarah Lancaster’s ‘Josie & Jack’
Zach Robinson has been tapped to score the upcoming indie drama Josie & Jack. The film marks the feature directorial debut of actress Sarah Lancaster and stars Olivia DeJonge, Alex Neustaedter, William Ficthner, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Owen Campbell and Anna Baryshnikov. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Kelly Braffet and tells the story of two teenage siblings who are raised in isolation in a decaying rural Pennsylvania mansion. Lancaster also wrote the screenplay with Braffet. Jonathon Komack Martin (Van Wilder: Party Liaison) and Blake Goza are producing the project.

Keegan DeWitt is reteaming with director Brett Haley on the upcoming Netflix original movie All the Bright Places. The film is based on Jennifer Niven’s bestselling YA novel and stars Elle Fanning, Justice Smith, Alexandra Shipp, Keegan-Michael Key, Luke Wilson, Kelli O’Hara, Felix Mallard, Virginia Gardner, Lamar Johnson and Sofia Hasmik.
