Opening semi-wide in around 800 theaters is the New Zealand psychological horror thriller The Rule of Jenny Pen directed by James Ashcroft and starring John Lithgow, Geoffrey Rush, Nathaniel Lees, Thomas Sainbury and Ian Mune. John Gibson (Rain of the Children) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which follows a former judge who must stop an elderly psychopath who employs a child’s puppet to abuse the residents of their shared rest home, premiered at last year’s Fantastic Fest and is being distributed by IFC Films & Shudder.

Opening in around 200 theaters is the biographical sports drama Queen of the Ring co-written and directed by Ash Avildsen and starring Emily Bett, Josh Lucas, Francesca Eastwood, Tyler Posey, Deborah Ann Woll,  Cara Buono, Marie Avgeropolous, Martin Kove, Adam Demos, Gavin Casalegno and Walton Goggins. The film’s original score is composed by Aaron Gilhuis (Bandit, Me, Life by EllaParallaxChristmas Is Canceled, The Miseducation of Bindu). Sumerian Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie, including several produced by Gilhuis, today. Opening in Los Angeles and New York today is the comedy drama On Becoming a Guinea Fowl written and directed by Rungano Nyoni and starring Susan Chardy, Elizabeth Chisela and Henry B.J. Phiri.
