Intrada Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the Japanese 1992 drama The Setting Sun directed by Rou Tomono and starring Masaya Kato, Diane Lane and Yuen Biao. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Academy Award winner composer Maurice Jarre (Lawrence of Arabia, Ghost, Doctor Zhivago, Witness, Good Morning Vietnam). Quartet Records has announced three new limited edition soundtrack releases. First up is a new soundtrack album for the 1984 historical drama A Passage to India directed by David Lean and starring Judy David, Victor Banerjee, Peggy Ashcroft, James Fox and Alec Guiness. The album features the film’s complete original score composed and conducted by Maurice Jarre who previously worked with the director on Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago and Ryan’s Daughter. The release includes more than 20 minutes of previously unreleased music, including many cues that were not used in the final cut of the movie. The composer was honored with his third Academy Award for his score in 1985 and the movie received ten more nominations. The music is performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Varese Sarabande has announced the newest titles in the label’s CD Club series. Among the latest releases is a deluxe edition for the 1991 action thriller sequel Die Hard 2 – Die Harder directed by Renny Harlin and starring Bruce Willis, Dennis Franz, John Amos and Bonnie Bedelia.
