Mark Kilian and Paul Hepker are reteaming with director Gavin Hood on the upcoming political thriller Official Secrets. The film is co-written and directed by Hood and stars Keira Knightley, Matt Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Matthew Goode, Indira Varma, Conleth Hill, Tamsin Greig, Adam Bakri, Myanna Buring and John Hefferman. The movie tells the true story of British Intelligence whistle-blower Katharine Gun who, during the immediate run-up to the 2003 Iraq invasion, leaked a top-secret NSA memo exposing a joint U.S.-U.K. illegal spying operation against members of the UN Security Council.

‘Dolores’ Soundtrack Announced
Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the documentary Dolores. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mark Kilian (Pitch Perfect, Tsotsi, Eye in the Sky, Traitor, Rendition). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 17, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Dolores is directed by Peter Bratt and centers on Dolores Huerta, the advocate who founded the National Farmworkers Association but is often forgotten in the shadow of co-founder Cesar Chavez. The Carlos Santana-produced documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it screened in the U.S. Documentary Competition, and was released in select theaters this past September by PBS.
Mark Kilian Scoring ‘S.M.A.R.T. Chase’
Mark Kilian has recently composed the music for the upcoming action thriller S.M.A.R.T. Chase. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Charles Martin (Marcella, Skins) and stars Orlando Bloom, Lei Wu and Simon Yam. The movie revolves around a a washed-up private security agent who gets ambushed as he attempts to escort a pricey Chinese antique out of Shanghai. Kevin Bernhardt (Peaceful Warrior, Elephant White) wrote the screenplay. Ben Pugh (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Welcome to the Punch) and Wei Han (The King’s Daughter) are producing the Bliss Media production.

The only movie opening nationwide this weekend is Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell. The film’s original score is composed by Tyler Bates (300, Watchmen). Hollywood Records has released two soundtrack albums, including the Awesome Mix Vol. 2 featuring the songs from the movie, as well as score album featuring Bates’ music. Opening in limited release is the comedy drama 3 Generations co-written and directed by Gaby Dellal and starring Elle Fanning, Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon, Sam Trammell, Linda Emond and Tate Donovan. West Dylan Thordson (Split, Foxcatcher) has composed the film’s original score. Michael Brook composed the original version of the film (entitled About Ray), which premiered at the 2015 Toronto Film Festival. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album for the dance movie Honey 3: Dare to Dance. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Hopp & Nelson Beato, J-Five, Major Lazer, Jaon Derulo, JMR, Carly Rose & more. Also included is the movie’s original score composed by Mark Kilian (Pitch Perfect, Tsotsi, Traitor, Rendition, Eye in the Sky). The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio samples. Honey 3: Dare to Dance is directed by Bille Woodruff (The Perfect Match, Addicted, Beauty Shop) who previously helmed the first two Honey movies and stars Cassie Ventura and Kenny Wormald.
Mark Kilian to Score John Pogue’s ‘Brother’s Blood’
Mark Kilian has been hired to score the upcoming action thriller Brother’s Blood. The film is directed by John Pogue (The Quiet Ones, screenwriter of The Skulls & U.S. Marshals) and stars Trey Songz and WWE star R-Truth. The movie follows a recently released convict who begins to take murderous revenge against his childhood friends, whom he believes let him take the fall for a crime they collectively committed. Karl Gajdusek (Oblivion, Last Resort), Michael Finch (Hitman: Agent 47, Predators) and Charles Murray (Sons Of Anarchy) have written the screenplay.

Opening in most theaters is the thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane directed by Dan Trachtenberg and starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr. The film’s original music is composed by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, Outlander, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Mark Kilian has been hired to score the upcoming ABC drama Wicked City. The show is created by Steven Baigelman (Get on Up, Feeling Minnesota) and stars Ed Westwick, Erika Christensen, Jeremy Sisto, Taissa Farmiga, Gabriel Luna, Karolina Wydra, Evan Ross, Anne Winters and Jaime Ray Newman. The series follows a unique case set in a noteworthy era of L.A. history, starting with a murder case from 1982 centered on the rock ’n’ roll, cocaine-infused revelry of the Sunset Strip.
