William Ross has recently recorded his music for the Lifetime drama Steel Magnolias. The film is a remake of the 1989 feature written by Robert Harling, directed by Herbert Ross and starring Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine and Julia Roberts. The movie follows the lives and friendship of six Louisiana-based women who congregate regularly at Truvy’s beauty shop and stars Queen Latifah as M’Lynn, Alfre Woodard as Ouiser, Phylicia Rashad as Clairee, Jill Scott as Truvy, Adepero Oduye as Annelle and Condola Rashad as Shelby. Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun) is directing the film and Sally Robinson (Iron Jawed Angels) has adapted the material for television.

Erran Baron Cohen Scoring ‘Talhotblond’
Erran Baron Cohen has scored the Lifetime TV movie Talhotblond. The drama marks the longform directorial debut of Courteney Cox and follows the life of Thomas Montgomery, a married father of two young daughters who gets seduced by the world of online gambling and chat rooms where a virtual romance and sexual obsession ultimately leads to the murder of an innocent man. Garret Dillahunt, Laura San Giacomo and Ashley Hinshaw are starring in the TV production. The film is executive produced by Brad Krevoy (HBO’s Taking Chance, Dumb & Dumber) Alexandre Coscas and Francisco Gonzalez. Trent Haaga wrote the screenplay which is based on the documentary talhotblond by Barbara Schroeder.
Gabriel Mann to Score NBC’s ‘Bent’ and ABC Family’s ‘Jane by Design’
Gabriel Mann is scoring a couple of new TV shows that are set to premiere in 2012. Among the composer’s new projects is the half-hour comedy Bent. The series is created by Tad Quill (Scrubs, Spin City) and stars Amanda Peet as a recently divorced lawyer and David Walton as an irresponsible contractor and recovering gambling addict who is hired to remodel her kitchen. Jeffrey Tambor, Margo Harshman and Joey King are co-starring. Craig Zisk (Nurse Jackie, Weeds) directed the first two episodes. The Universal Media Studios-produced show is set to premiere as a mid-season replacement this spring on NBC.
‘Five’ to Feature Music by Lorne Balfe
Lorne Balfe has scored the Lifetime drama Five. The movie is an anthology of five short films exploring the impact of breast cancer on people’s lives. The drama highlights the shared experience each short film’s title character endures from the moment of diagnosis, through an interconnected story arc that uses humor and drama to focus on the effect breast cancer and its different stages of diagnosis. The five shorts are directed by by Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Keys, Demi Moore, Patty Jenkins (Monster) and Penelope Spheeris (Wayne’s World). 2011 Summer Television Music Roundup (Part 3)

TNT:
The most successful new show of the summer on TNT is the sci-fi series Falling Skies. The project starring Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Drew Roy, Sarah Carter and Maxim Knight is produced by Steven Spielberg and centers on an alien invasion of Earth and the resistance formed by the survivor. Also producing are Graham Yost (Justified) and Robert Rodat (writer of Saving Private Ryan). Noah Sorota is scoring the show. Gabriel Mann to Score ‘Ringer’
Gabriel Mann is the composer of the upcoming CW drama Ringer. The show stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (in her first TV show since Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as a woman on the run, who assumes her twin sister’s identity, only to discover that her sister’s life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to escape. Nestor Carbonell (Lost), Ioann Gruffudd (Fantastic Four), Kristoffer Polaha (Mad Men) and Tara Summers (Boston Legal) are co-starring. Pam Veasey (CSI: NY), Peter Traugott (Samantha Who?) and Richard Shephard (The Matador, The Hunting Party) are executive producing the drama. Shephard also directed the project’s pilot. The CW has scheduled the show to premiere on September 13.
