Carter Burwell has been named Film Composer of the Year 2016 at the 16th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 43rd Ghent Film Festival. The composer’s output over the last year includes such titles as Anomalisa, Hail Caesar!, Legend, The Family Fang and The Finest Hours. Burwell also received the Public Choice Award for his Academy Award-nominated score for Todd Haynes’ Carol and also won an award in the Best Original Song category for the Tom Noonan-performed track None of Them Are You from the animated feature Anomalisa, which he co-wrote with Charlie Kaufman. Jeff Beal was honored as the TV composer of the year for his work on the Netflix original series House of Cards.

Two new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the action thriller Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris. The film’s original music is composed by Joe Kraemer (Jack Reacher, The Way of the Gun). Paramount Pictures and La-La Land Records are releasing a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Already playing nationwide since this past Wednesday is the comedy reboot Vacation written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley and starring Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, Skyler Gisondo, Steele Stebbins, Chris Hemsworth, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. Mark Mothersbaugh (The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) has composed the film’s original score. ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ Soundtrack Details
The full album details of the soundtrack album for the action sequel Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Joe Kraemer (Jack Reacher, The Way of the Gun, Femmes Fatales). The soundtrack will be released physically on La-La Land Records’ website on July 28, digitally on July 31 and elsewhere on August 4. The film’s original music is composed by Theodore Shapiro (The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song Who Can You Trust, which he co-wrote with Craig Wedren and is performed Ivy Levan. La-La Land Records will release the soundtrack album for the action thriller Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. The album features the film’s original music composed by Joe Kraemer (Jack Reacher, The Way of the Gun) who follows Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer and Michael Giacchino as the fourth composer of the movie series. The soundtrack is set to be released physically on August 4, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible series is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin and Sean Harris.
‘Dawn Patrol’ Soundtrack Announced
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the drama Dawn Patrol. The album features the film’s original music composed by Joe Kraemer (Jack Reacher, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, The Way of the Gun), as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Donovan Frankenreiter, Safety Orange, Guardian Ghost & Up the Anesthetic and the original track Bad Things by Rita Wilson & Matt Nathanson. Dawn Patrol is directed by Daniel Petrie Jr. and stars Scott Eastwood, Rita Wilson, Chris Brochu and Jeff Fahey. The movie follows a surfer-turned-Marine held at gunpoint in a distant desert who tells his tragic story of revenge for his brother gone wrong to stall his execution.
Joe Kraemer to Score ‘Mission: Impossible 5’
Director Christopher McQuarrie announced on Twitter that Joe Kraemer is set to score the upcoming action thriller sequel Mission: Impossible 5. The film stars Tom Cruise who returns as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt. Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames are also reprising their roles from the previous installment in the series. They are joined by Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson. Will Staples and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) have written the screenplay. Cruise is also producing the project with J.J. Abrams. Kraemer has previously scored McQuarrie’s previous two directorial efforts, The Way of the Gun and 2011’s Jack Reacher, which also starred Tom Cruise. The previous Mission: Impossible films featured music by Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer and most recently, Michael Giacchino who scored the third and fourth parts in the series.
David Arnold’s ‘The Stepford Wives’ Score and Expanded ‘Dennis the Menace’ Soundtrack Released
La-La Land Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 2004 comedy The Stepford Wives directed by Frank Oz and starring Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick and Bette Midler. The album features the film’s original music composed by David Arnold (Independence Day, Casino Royale, Stargate), including a number of alternate cues and music not used in the film. The film’s music is composed by Joe Kraemer who previously scored the director’s 2000 film The Way of the Gun. La-La Land Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally earlier this week. The release date for the physical version is set for early January. Also opening today is the comedy drama This is 40 written and directed by Judd Apatow and starring Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, John Lithgow, Megan Fox, Iris Apatow, Maude Apatow, Melissa McCarthy, Jason Segel, Robert Smigel, Charlyne Yi and Albert Brooks. The film’s original score is composed by Jon Brion (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). A soundtrack album featuring one score track by the composer, as well as the film’s songs by artists including Norah Jones, Fiona Apple, Graham Parker and Lindsey Buckingham (all produced by Jon Brion), Wilco and Ryan Adams has been released on Capitol Records.
