GNP Crescendo Records has announced a new soundtrack edition for the 1996 sci-fi film Star Trek: First Contact. The album features the complete score from the film composed by Jerry Goldsmith (with additional music by Joel Goldsmith), including almost 35 minutes of previously unreleased music. Complete ‘Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home’ Soundtrack Announced
Intrada Records has announced the release of a number of classic film scores. First up is the world premiere release of the complete score for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. The music is composed by Leonard Rosenman who received an Academy Award nomination for his score. Apart from the movie’s full score, the 2CD-set also includes previously unreleased cues, plus several alternates including Rosenman’s unused take on Alexander Courage’s TV theme. Danny Elfman’s ‘Scrooged’ Score and Ennio Morricone’s ‘Fat Man and Little Boy’ Soundtrack Released
La-La Land Records has announced four new limited soundtrack albums, including two world premiere releases and two new editions of film music classics. First up is the previously unreleased score for Richard Donner’s 1988 holiday comedy Scrooged. The album includes the music from the movie by Danny Elfman. The project was Elfman’s first major Hollywood studio assignment before he scored his breakout score for Tim Burton’s Batman. Scrooged starring Bill Murray, Karen Allen, David Johansen and Bobcat Goldthwait received one Academy Award nomination for Best Make Up.
The label has also announced the world premiere release of the 1989 docudrama Fat Man and Little Boy. The album includes the original score from the film by Ennio Morricone. The first release is a 2-disc edition of Jerry Goldsmith‘s score for the 1979 action adventure movie The Great Train Robbery. The album includes the world premiere release of the complete score on one disc, as well as the original 1979 soundtrack assembly as produced by Goldsmith. The Great Train Robbery starring Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland and Lesley-Anne Down was written and directed by Michael Crichton.
The label’s other new release is the world premiere release of James Horner‘s score for the 1981 horror thriller Wolfen. The album includes the complete score by Horner written for the film, including two alternate tracks not used in the movie. Film Score Monthly has announced a new soundtrack edition for Joe Dante’s 1984 classic Gremlins. The 2 CD-set includes the premiere release of the complete score by Jerry Goldsmith on one disc and a recreation of the 1984 soundtrack album featuring three songs from the film and a 16-minute score suite by Goldsmith. The album is limited to 3000 copies and features almost 75 minutes of Goldsmith’s score, including a significant amount of previously unreleased music. The album marks the world premiere release of the film’s score composed by Jerry Goldsmith and includes more than half an hour of previously unreleased music. Complete ‘Masada’ Soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith and Morton Stevens announced
Intrada Records has announced a new soundtrack release for the 1981 adventure mini-series Masada. The album includes the complete original score from all four parts of the series composed by Jerry Goldsmith and Morton Stevens. Goldsmith scored the first two parts and Stevens wrote the music for Parts 3 & 4. The album comes in a 2-CD set and is limited to 5000 copies. Masada directed by Boris Sagal (The Omega Man) and starring Peter O’Toole and Peter Strauss tells the story of the historical siege of the Masada citadel in Israel by legions of the Roman Empire in AD 73. The mini-series was nominated for 13 Emmy Awards and 3 Golden Globes and Jerry Goldsmith has won an Emmy Award for his score for the second part.
Expanded ‘Scream’ Score by Marco Beltrami announced
Varese Sarabande has announced the newest titles in their CD Club series. Among the new releases is a deluxe edition of Marco Beltrami‘s score for Wes Craven’s original Scream film. Only about 12 minutes of music from the horror movie has previously been released on a compilation with the sequel’s score. The new album features more than an hour of music from the film, which introduced Beltrami to a wider audience. One track on the CD is credited to Christophe Beck, who also was just starting out at the time of the film’s release. The album is limited to 2000 copies and is now available to pre-order on Varese’s website, where you can see the full track list and listen to audio clips from the soundtrack. Scream was released in 1996 and it’s cast included Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy and Drew Barrymore.
