Over the last week, Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Martian, Mulan, Man on Fire, Kingdom of Heaven) has been recording his score for the upcoming stop-motion animated sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. The film is directed by Sam Fell (ParaNorman, The Tale of Despereaux) and features the voice talent of Thandiwe Newton, Zachary Levi, Imelda Staunton, Bella Ramsey, Lynn Ferguson, David Bradley, Romesh Ranganathan, Jane Horrocks, Daniel Mays, Josie Sedgwick-Davies and Nick Mohammed.

Harry Gregson-Williams Scoring Ben Wheatley’s ‘Meg 2: The Trench’
Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek, The Martian, The Chronicles of Narnia, Mulan, The Last Duel, Kingdom of Heaven) has recently recorded his score for the upcoming shark thriller Meg 2: The Trench. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley (High-Rise, Free Fire, Rebecca) and stars Jason Statham, Wu Jing, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sienna Guillory, Skyler Samuels and Sergio Peris-Mencheta. No plot details have been revealed yet for the sequel to Jon Turtletaub’s original 2018 The Meg movie.
DreamWorks Animation Premieres New Logo Sequence Featuring Music by Harry Gregson-Williams
DreamWorks Animation has premiered the studios’ new animated logo sequence, which will be first seen in front of its latest animated feature Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which is receiving sneak preview showings in select theaters this Saturday, November 26 and is set to be released in theaters on December 21. Harry Gregson-Williams (The Martian, The Chronicles of Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven, Man on Fire) has composed the sequence’s music, which features his (and John Powell’s) theme from the original 2001 Shrek movie and was also used in the studios’ previous logo sequence. Weekly Film Music Roundup (October 28, 2022)
Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the supernatural horror movie Prey for the Devil directed by Daniel Stamm and starring Jacqueline Byers, Colin Salmon, Christian Navarro, Virginia Madsen, Nicholas Ralph, Lisa Palfrey and Ben Cross. The film’s original music is composed by Nathan Barr (True Blood, The House with a Clock in Its Walls, The Americans, Hollywood, Hemlock Grove, Cabin Fever). Also opening wide is the drama Call Jane directed by Phyllis Nagy and starring Elizabeth Banks, Sigourney Weaver, Chris Messina, Kate Mara, Wunmi Mosaku, Cory Michael Smith, John Magaro and Grace Edwards. Isabella Summers (of Florence + the Machine) (Little Fires Everywhere, Physical, The Offer, Sex/Life) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Harry Gregson-Williams Scoring Nimrod Antal’s ‘Retribution’
Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Martian, The Last Duel, Mulan, Kingdom of Heaven) has been tapped to score the upcoming thriller Retribution. The film is directed by Nimrod Antal (Predators, Control) and stars Liam Neeson, Matthew Modine, Embeth Davidtz, Arian Moayed, Noma Dumezweni, Jack Champion and Lilly Aspel. The movie is based on the Spanish feature El Desconocido and follows a banking executive whose life is thrown upside down when a bomb is placed inside his car with him and his family, and the banker’s children are forced to go through the harrowing events with him.
‘Polar Bear’ Soundtrack Album Details
Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for the Disneynature documentary Polar Bear. The album features the film’s original music composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek, The Martian, Mulan, Kingdom of Heaven, The Last Duel) who previously scored the studios’ Monkey Kingdom and Penguins. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, April 22 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Polar Bear is directed by Alastair Fothergill & Jeff Wilson, narrated by Catherine Keener and tells the story of a new mother whose memories of her own youth prepare her to navigate motherhood in the increasingly challenging world that polar bears face today.

Premiering today is the Showtime original series The First Lady created by Aaron Cooley, directed by Susanne Bier and starring Viola Davis as Michelle Obama, Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford, Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt, as well as Kiefer Sutherland, Aaron Eckhart, Dakota Fanning, Regina Taylor, Lily Rabe and Jayme Lawson. The show’s original music is composed by Geoff Zanelli (Pirates of the Caribbean:Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Into the West, Disturbia, The Intruder, Christopher Robin). The drama, which will air every Sunday on Showtime.
Premiering on Friday is the Apple TV+ docuseries They Call Me Magic directed by Rick Famuyiwa about the life and career of NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Malcolm X, Perry Mason, 25th Hour, Red Tails, Harriet, Da 5 Bloods, Swagger, One Night in Miami…) has composed the show’s original music. Maisie Music Publishing will release the official soundtrack album for the Netflix original documentary Return to Space. The album features the film’s original music composed by Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Capote, The Good Dinosaur, Little Miss Sunshine, Onward, The Addams Family) & Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek, The Martian, Shrek, The Last Duel, Mulan, Kingdom of Heaven, The Equalizer). Also included is Sharon Van Etten’s cover of David Bowie’s Starman as featured during the movie’s end titles sequence. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, April 8 and will be available to stream/download here. Return to Space is directed by Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (Free Solo) and follows a group of Elon Musk and SpaceX engineers as they embark on a historic mission to return NASA astronauts to the International Space Station and revolutionize space travel.

Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Little Miss Sunshine, Capote, The Good Dinosaur, The Addams Family) & Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Martian, Shrek, Mulan, The Last Duel, Man on Fire, Kingdom of Heaven, The Equalizer) have teamed up to score the new Netflix original documentary Return to Space. The film is directed by Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (Free Solo, The Rescue) and tells the story of SpaceX and Elon Musk’s nearly 20 year journey to send American astronauts back to space aboard U.S. rockets.
