Last night, Elliot Goldenthal was presented with the first ever Wojciech Kilar Award during the sold out Polish Music Gala: Scoring4Wajda concert in the ICE Krakow Congress Center at the Krakow Film Music Festival in Krakow, Poland. The Academy Award-winning composer’s longtime companion and entertainer, director Julie Taymor (Frida, Titus, Across the Universe, A Midsummer Night’s Dream) was also in attendance a the event. The Wojciech Kilar Award aims to raise the profile of the late Polish pianist/composer who is known for such scores as The Pianist and Bram Stoker’s Dracula and honors composers whose film work has a vigorous life beyond the screen.

Elliot Goldenthal’s ‘Symphony in G-Sharp Minor’ to Be Released
Zarathustra Music will release an EP featuring Elliot Goldenthal‘s concert work Symphony in G-Sharp Minor. The Academy Award-winning composer whose film scores include Frida, Interview with the Vampire, Heat, Batman Forever, Alien 3 and Public Enemies composed the piece, which was commissioned by the Pacific Symphony and marks his second collaboration with the orchestra following the oratorio Fire Water Paper. The symphony premiered last year at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, CA. The EP featuring the symphony’s two movements Moderato con moto and Rondo agitato will be released on May 12, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon and iTunes.
Elliot Goldenthal, Deborah Lurie, Johann Johannsson & Sean Callery Honored at ASCAP Film & TV Music Awards
Last night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Film & Television Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Elliot Goldenthal was honored with the ASCAP Founders Award, which is given to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. The Academy Award-winning composer was presented the award by director Michael Mann who collaborated with Goldenthal on Heat and Public Enemies. Goldenthal’s partner Julie Taymor who worked with him on Frida, Titus, Across the Universe and various stage productions, as well as Neil Jordan who collaborated with the composer on films including Interview with the Vampire and Michael Collins congratulated the composer via a video message.
Elliot Goldenthal to Receive ASCAP Founders Award
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has announced that composer Elliot Goldenthal will receive the organization’s Founder Award at the 30th annual Film & Television Music Awards, which will take place on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. The invitation-only dinner and awards ceremony will honor the composers and songwriters of the top box office film music, the most performed television music and the top video game music of 2014. The Founder Award is given to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators. Previous recipients include Quincy Jones, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, Elmer Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Elliot Goldenthal’s Othello Symphony to Be Released
Zarathustra Music will release Academy Award-winning composer Elliot Goldenthal‘s Othello Symphony based on the ballet he composed in 1998. Last year, the composer of such films as Frida, Interview with a Vampire, Heat, Public Enemies and Alien 3 adapted the music into a proper concert piece, which was recorded with the AUKSO Orchestra of Tychy Poland at Alvernia Studios in Krakow. The recording will be released on May 6 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Also visit iTunes to listen to audio clips. Earlier this month, the composer’s label also released String Quartet No. 1 “The Stone Cutters” and Early Chamber Works, which includes includes world premiere recordings of Goldenthal’s 1980 Sonata for Bass and Piano and 1974 Three Pieces for Solo Piano, as well as the Extension Ensemble performing Goldenthal’s Second Brass Quintet. Elliot Goldenthal’s Expanded ‘Pet Sematary’ Score Released
La-La Land Records will release a new soundtrack album for the 1989 horror thriller Pet Sematary directed by Mary Lambert, based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel and starring Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby and Fred Gwynne. The album features the expanded and remastered original score from the movie composed by Elliot Goldenthal (Frida, Interview with a Vampire, Alien 3). The soundtrack features over 30 minutes of previously unreleased music from the Paramount Pictures production and also includes alternate tracks and source cues. Elliot Goldenthal to Be Inducted Into New York Foundation for the Arts Hall of Fame
The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) has announced that composer Elliot Goldenthal will be inducted into the NYFA Hall of Fame on Tuesday, April 23 at Espace (635 West 42nd Street). Goldenthal’s best known work for film includes his score for Julie Taymor’s Frida, for which he won his first Academy Award and was nominated for the original song Burn It Blue. He also received two more Oscar nominations for Interview With the Vampire and Michael Collins. His other work includes the original two-act opera Grendel, the three-act ballet of Othello and the large-scale symphonic piece Fire Water Paper: A Vietnam Oratorio. He is currently composing the original music for a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to be directed by Taymor for Theatre for a New Audience this fall. The NYFA Hall of Fame was created to both honor the work of artists to whom NYFA provided critical support early in their careers and recognize philanthropists and patrons of the arts who have had an impact of the City’s cultural community. The other honorees to be inducted on April 23 include author and co-director of the Acquavella Gallery Michael Findlay, filmmaker Mira Nair and visual artist Fred Wilson. Film Music Festival in Krakow to Celebrate Elliot Goldenthal
Composer Elliot Goldenthal will be celebrated in concert at the Film Music Festival in Krakow on Saturday, May 26 at the Tinning Plant of ArcelorMittal Poland in Krakow. The concert will be performed by the Polish Orchestra Sinfonietta Cracovia accompanied by Pro Musica Mundi Choir and the boys’ choir Pueri Contores Sancti Nicolai and conducted by composer Diego Navarro. The first part of the concert program – Alien – The Biomechanical Symphony – will be devoted to music from all four Alien films in the sci-fi saga and will feature suites from Goldenthal’s music for Alien 3, as well as from Jerry Goldsmith’s Alien, James Horner’s Aliens and John Frizzell’s Alien: Resurrection scores. The second part of the program – Elliot Goldenthal’s Cinema of Art & Blood – will feature music from some of Goldenthal’s collaborations with director Julie Taymor including Frida (for which the composer received his first Academy Award) and Titus in addition to his music from Neil Jordan’s Interview with a Vampire and Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever.
New ‘Batman Forever’ Score Album Edition Released
La-La Land Records has released a new limited edition release of the score for Joel Schumacher’s 1995 comic book adventure Batman Forever. The music is written by Academy Award winner Elliot Goldenthal. The 2-CD set includes the remastered original score album release, as well as the composer’s score in chronological order, including around an hour of previously unreleased music. Batman Forever starring Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman was Schmumacher’s and Goldenthal’s first collaboration in the Batman series, which was followed in 1997 with Batman & Robin.
