Opening in select theaters this weekend is the romantic drama Empire of Light written and directed by Sam Mendes and starring Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Toby Jones, Tanya Moodie, Tom Brooke, Crystal Clarke and Colin Firth. The film’s original music is composed by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network, Watchmen, Soul, Gone Girl, Mank, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). The Null Corporation has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score today. Opening in New York and Los Angeles this weekend before expanding to more markets in the coming weeks is the psychological drama The Whale directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink, Hong Chau, Ty Simpkins and Samantha Morton. Rob Simonsen (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Foxcatcher, Nerve, The Way Back, The Adam Project) has composed the film’s original music. ‘Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical’ Soundtrack Album Details

Sony Music Masterworks & Milan Records have announced the details of the soundtrack album for the Netflix original film Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. The album features the Grammy Award-nominated songs from the original West End production written by Tim Minchin (Groundhog Day The Musical), newly recorded by the movie’s cast, including Alisha Weir (who stars in the title role), Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch, Andrea Riseborough and Stephen Graham. Also included are ten tracks from film’s original score by composed by Christopher Nightingale (Pride). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 18 and physically on December 9. Sony Masterworks has announced the official soundtrack album for the Netflix original film Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. The album features the Grammy Award-nominated songs from the original West End production written by Tim Minchin (Groundhog Day The Musical, Back to the Outback) and performed throughout the movie, as well as the film’s original score by composed by Christopher Nightingale (Pride). Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the action thriller The Equalizer directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Denzel Washington, Chloë Grace Moretz, Marton Csokas, David Harbour, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo. The film’s original music is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia, Shrek series, Man on Fire, Unstoppable) who previously scored the director’s The Replacement Killers. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Check out our previous article for the full album details. Also opening wide this weekend is the animated feature The Boxtrolls directed by Anthony Stacchi & Graham Annable and featuring the voices of Ben Kingsley, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Elle Fanning, Jared Harris, , Tracy Morgan, Toni Collette, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade and Simon Pegg. Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, V for Vendetta, Anna Karenina) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the film, including The Boxtrolls Song written by Eric Idle and performed by Mark Orton and Loch Lomond. ‘Pride’ Soundtrack Details

Universal Music will release a soundtrack album for the British comedy drama Pride. The album features numerous 80s hits from and inspired by the film by such artists as Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Bronski Beat, Wham, Pet Shop Boys, King, Soft Cell, Queen, Culture Club, Grace Jones, UB40, Smokey Robinson and more. Also included are three tracks from the movie’s original score composed by Christopher Nightingale The soundtrack will be released overseas on September 15, 2014. Check back on this page for the domestic release date. Pride is directed by Matthew Warchus and stars Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Paddy Considine, Andrew Scott, Joseph Gilgun, George MacKay and Ben Schnetzer. The movie tells the story of a group of gay and lesbian activists who work to help miners during their lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers in the summer of 1984.
