Decca Records will release a soundtrack album for the indie drama Queen of Carthage. The album features the film’s original score written by Golden Globe-nominated composer Brian Byrne (Albert Nobbs, The Good Doctor) and performed by the RTE Concert Orchestra, Kristina Train and Danielle De Niese. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 8, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Queen of Carthage is directed by Mardana M. Mayginnes and stars Keisha-Castle Hughes and Shiloh Fernandez who also co-wrote the screenplay and is producing the film, which follows an American drifter who discovers a New Zealand singer and develops an obsession for him.

Alberto Iglesias Named Film Composer of the Year 2012 at World Soundtrack Awards
Alberto Iglesias was chosen as Film Composer of the Year 2012 at the World Soundtrack Awards 2012, tonight’s closing event of the 39th Ghent Film Festival. Iglesias also received an award for his score for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy in the Best Original Film Score of the Year 2012 category. The composer’s other scores of the past year include The Monk (Le Moine) and Pedro Almadovar’s The Skin I Live In (La Piel Que Habito). In the Discovery of the Year category, Brian Byrne was awarded for his score for Rodrigo Garcia’s Albert Nobbs starring Glenn Close. The composer also received an award for the original song Lay Your Head Down from Albert Nobbs, which features lyrics by Glenn Close and is performed by Sinead O’Connor. The Public Choice Award went to Abel Korzeniowski for his music for Madonna’s W.E..
‘The Good Doctor’ Soundtrack Details
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the indie drama The Good Doctor. The album features the film’s original music composed by Brian Byrne who recently was nominated in the Discovery of the Year category at the World Soundtrack Awards for his work on last year’s Albert Nobbs. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 30, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips from the score can be checked out after the jump. The Good Doctor directed by Lance Daly and starring Orlando Bloom, Riley Keough, Taraji B. Henson, Rob Morrow and Michael Pena follows a doctor who meets an 18-year-old patient suffering from a kidney infection and begins tampering with her treatment when her health starts improving. The film was recently released in theaters and on VOD by Magnolia Pictures.

Three new movies are opening wide this week:
Already in theaters since Wednesday is the gangster movie Lawless directed by John Hillcoat, based on the novel The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant and starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowski. The film’s music is composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis who formed the band The Bootleggers (which also includes Martyn Casey, George Vjestic and David Sardy) for the project. Opening wide today is the horror thriller The Possession directed by Ole Bornedal, produced by Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Grant Show and Madison Davenport. Anton Sanko (Rabbit Hole, Big Love) has composed the film’s score. Lionsgate Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action drama The Grey directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson and James Badge Dale. The film’s music is composed by Marc Streitenfeld who has become go-to composer of Ridley Scott (who is producing The Grey) over the last couple of years, having previously scored such films as American Gangster and Robin Hood. Also opening wide is the action thriller Man on a Ledge directed by Asger Leth and starring Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Genesis Rodriguez, Edward Burns and Kyra Sedgwick. Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Puss in Boots) has written the music for the film. Summit Entertainment has released a soundtrack album featuring Jackman’s music. The album is already available to download and the CD version will be released on February 7. ‘Albert Nobbs’ Soundtrack Announced
Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming drama Albert Nobbs. The album includes the score from the movie by composer Brian Byrne, as well as the original song Lay Your Head Down co-written by Byrne and lead actress Glenn Close and performed by Sinéad O’Connor. The album will be released on December 13, 2012 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Albert Nobbs is directed by Rodrigo Garcia (Mother and Child) and stars Glenn Close as a woman who must pass as a man to survive life in 19th century Ireland. Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson, Janet McTeer, Brendan Gleeson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers are co-starring.
Brian Byrne Scoring ‘Albert Nobbs’
Brian Byrne is scoring the upcoming drama Albert Nobbs. The movie stars Glenn Close as a woman who must pass as a man to survive life in 19th century Ireland. Close also co-wrote the script based on a short story by Irish author George Moore and makes her feature producing debut on the project. Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson, Janet McTeer, Brendan Gleeson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers are co-starring. The film is directed by Rodrigo Garcia who has worked with composer Edward Shearmur on most of his previous features, including Mother and Child and Passengers.
