The details of the soundtrack release for Jacques Audiard’s drama Rust & Bone (De rouille et d’os) have been revealed. The album features 18 tracks from the film’s original score composed by Alexandre Desplat. Also included are various songs from the movie by Bon Iver, Azari, John Cooper Clarke, The B-52’s, Lykke Li, Carte Blanche and Colin Stetson. The soundtrack will be released in France both digitally and physically on May 14, 2012. Audio clips can be checked out here and the album is available to order as an import on Amazon. No domestic release for the soundtrack has been announced yet. Rust & Bone stars Marion Cottilard a killer whale trainer who suffers a terrible accident during one evening’s performance and is left handicapped. Matthias Schoenarts, Celine Sallette and Bouli Lanners are co-starring. The French drama is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next week.

‘Moonrise Kingdom’ Soundtrack Details
The track list of the soundtrack release for Wes Anderson’s comedy drama Moonrise Kingdom has been revealed. The album features five tracks from the film’s original score composed by Alexandre Desplat, as well as music by Leonard Bernstein, Benjamin Britten, Hank Williams, Françoise Hardy and Peter Jarvis. The soundtrack will be released on May 22, 2012 by ABKCO Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. Moonrise Kingdom stars Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. The movie is set in a small New England town that is turned upside down when a young boy and girl who fall in love run away together.
Alexandre Desplat Scoring ‘Big House’
Alexandre Desplat is the composer of the upcoming Italian film Big House. The movie is directed by Matteo Garrone who previously helmed the critically acclaimed and Golden Globe-nominated crime drama Gomorrah. Big House takes a look at the Italian obsession with appearing on TV in the Silvio Berlusconi age and revolves around a Neapolitan based family who await the news about a their father being selected for a reality show. The film’s cast includes Claudia Gerini, Ciro Petrone, Nunzia Schiano, Angelica Borghese, Aniello Arena and Loredana Simioli. Garrone has co-written the script with his Gomorrah writing partners Massimo Gaudioso, Ugo Chiti and Maurizio Braucci. The director is also producing the film with Domenico Procacci (Seven Pounds, Barney’s Version).
‘Cloclo’ Soundtrack Announced
Sony Music will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the French biopic Cloclo. The album includes songs from the movie performed by the film’s title character, as well as Frank Sinatra, Otis Redding and KC & The Sunshine Band among other artists. Also included are more than 15 minutes from the film’s original score written by Academy Award-nominated composer Alexandre Desplat. The album will be released on March 12, 2012 in France. No word yet on a domestic release of the soundtrack or film. Cloclo is directed by Florent Emilio Siri (Hostage) who has worked with Desplat several times before. The movie stars Jérémie Renier as the French singer Claude François who was a star of “chanson française” in the 1960s and 70s and died in a tragic accident in 1978, at the age of 39.
Alexandre Desplat to Score Dreamworks Animation’s ‘Rise of the Guardians’ and Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’
Alexandre Desplat has been hired to score the upcoming Dreamworks Animation feature Rise of the Guardians. The movie is based on the book series The Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce (Meet the Robinsons) who is also co-directing the film with Peter Ramsey. The movie follows a group of heroic childhood legends, including Santa Claus (voiced by Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and Jack Frost (Chris Pine) who teaming up to stop Pitch the Boogeyman (Jude Law) from sending the world into eternal darkness. Joyce has also co-written the film’s script with David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots, Rabbit Hole). Christina Steinberg (Bee Movie) and Nancy Bernstein are producing the project and Guillermo del Toro and Michael Siegel (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) serve as executive producers. Rise of the Guardians marks Desplat’s first major animated feature tentpole project and also his first movie for Dreamworks.
Alexandre Desplat to Score Peter Webber’s ‘Emperor’
Director Peter Webber has announced on Twitter (via The Film Stage) that Alexandre Desplat is attached to score the upcoming political thriller Emperor. The movie starring Matthew Fox and Tommy Lee Jones is set in Japan amidst the uncertainties of the days following the nation’s surrender at the end of World War II, when General Douglas MacArthur as the Supreme Commander of the occupying forces and the leading Japanese expert on his staff are faced with the decision if Emperor Hirohito should be tried and hanged as a war criminal. David Klass (Walking Tall) and Vera Blasi are writing the screenplay based on the historic events. Yoko Narahashi (The Last Samurai), Gary Foster (Daredevil, Ghost Rider), Russ Krasnoff (The Soloist) and Eugene Nomura are producing. Desplat has previously collaborated with Webber on 2003’s The Girl with a Pearl Earring, for which the composer received his first Golden Globe nomination and which put him on the map in Hollywood.

They have previously worked together on all of the director’s features including the crime drama A Prophet, which was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category two years ago. The director’s newest film is the drama Rust and Bone based on a short-story collection by Craig Davidson of the same title. The movie stars Marion Cotillard as a killer whale trainer who suffers a terrible accident during one evening’s performance and is left handicapped. Matthias Schoenarts, Celine Sallette and Bouli Lanners are co-starring. Audiard co-wrote the film’s screenplay with his writing partner on A Prophet, Thomas Bidegain and is also producing the film with Martine Cassinelli and Pascal Caucheteux. The movie is set for a release this fall in France.
Weekly Film Music Roundup (December 23, 2011)
Six movies are opening nationwide this holiday weekend. Three movies already opened on Wednesday and two films will be receiving a wide release on Christmas Day.
Among the December 21 releases is the thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo directed by David Fincher and starring Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgard and Joely Richardson. The film’s music is written by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Reznor’s label Null Records has released a number of different soundtrack editions, including a 6-track sampler, which can be downloaded for free on the label’s website. Also already out in wide release is Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin produced by Peter Jackson and starring Simon Pegg, Daniel Craig, Cary Elwes and Andy Serkis. ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ Soundtrack Details
The details of the soundtrack album for Stephen Daldry’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close have been revealed. The album includes 18 tracks from the film’s original score composed by Alexandre Desplat. As previously announced, the soundtrack is scheduled to be released on CD on January 17, 2012 by WaterTower Music. The album has been released digitally this week and is now available to download on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album after the jump. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close starring Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Thomas Horn, John Goodman, Viola Davis, Jeffrey Wright and Max von Sydow will be released in select theaters on December 25 and nationwide on January 20.
