Lionsgate Records has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming thriller The Next Three Days directed by Paul Haggis and starring Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks and Olivia Wilde. Danny Elfman wrote the score, which the composer also conducted during the recording sessions in London. Apart from 23 tracks from the score, the album also includes the two songs Mistake and Be The One by Moby. Ilan Eshkeri recently recorded the score for the upcoming drama Coriolanus. The movie marks the directorial debut of actor Ralph Fiennes who also stars in the movie alongside Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave and Brian Cox. In the movie based on Shakespeare’s play adapted by Oscar nominated screenwriter John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Aviator), a banished hero of Rome allies with a sworn enemy to take his revenge on the city. According to the composer’s Facebook page, the score is in a minimalist contemporary style. No release date has been set yet for Coriolanus, but the movie is expected to open next year.

Alexandre Desplat’s score for The King’s Speech will be released by Decca Records on November 22. The soundtrack album features about 30 minutes of score, plus two classical pieces by Beethoven which have been specifically recorded for the movie. Michael Brook has written the score for the upcoming country-themed drama Country Strong. The movie directed by Shana Feste starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester centers on a rising country-music songwriter (Hedlund) who sparks with a fallen star. Feste previously worked with composer Christophe Beck on her last movie The Greatest. A soundtrack album featuring the songs in the movie has already been released by Sony Music. The Screen Gems movie will get a limited release on December 22 and is planned to receive a wide release on January 7, 2011. The composer duo of Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman has been hired to score the upcoming comedy Jumping the Broom. In the movie, two very different African American families converge on Martha’s Vineyard one weekend for a wedding. The movie stars Julie Bowen, Paula Patton, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine and Mike Epps. Jumping the Broom marks director Salim Akil’s feature directorial debut.  The Sony Pictures movie which has entered post production will be released on May 6, 2011. Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album to the upcoming animated movie Tangled on November 16. Both the film’s songs and score written by Alan Menken are included on the album. New Patton soundtrack album announced

Intrada Records has announced a new release of Jerry Goldsmith’s score to Franklin J. Schaffer-directed 1970 classic Patton. The 2 disc release includes both the original soundtrack, as well as the original 1970 Fox album which Goldsmith recorded with London musicians. The depiction of the World War II phase of the controversial American general’s career starring George S. Scott and Karl Malden won seven Academy awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Goldsmith’s score was one of the film’s 10 nomination. Warner Bros has officially confirmed that Alexandre Desplat will be back as the composer for the last installment in the Harry Potter series Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. While Desplat’s attachment to the project has been expected given his involvement in the first part of the final book adaptation, there has been much speculation that John Williams might return to score the last movie of the franchise. The last movie begins as Harry, Ron, and Hermione go back to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemorts final horcruxes, but when Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle begins and life as they know it will never be the same again. Most of the cast & crew of the recent Potter movies including David Yates will be back for the film. Warner Bros will release the conclusion of the series on July 15, 2011. Rachel Portman is making a return to film scoring with a number of projects to be released in the near future. She is currently completing the score for the drama Bel Ami directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod and produced Uberto Pasolini who has previously worked with Portman on The Emperor’s New Clothers. The movie chronicles a young man’s rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city’s most influential and wealthy women. Bel Ami stars Robert Pattinson, Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Colm Meaney. The drama is set in 19th century China and centers on the lifelong friendship between two girls who develop their own secret code as a way to contend with the rigid cultural norms imposed on women. David Newman has been hired to score the upcoming comedy sequel Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. In the third installment in the series, FBI agent Malcolm Turner and his stepson Trent go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school after Trent witnesses a murder. The film stars Martin Lawrence, Brandon T. Jackson and Faizon Love and is directed by John Whitesell who previously Big Momma’s House 2, Deck the Halls and Malibu’s Most Wanted. David Newman follows composers Richard Gibbs and George S. Clinton who scored the other parts in the series. 20th Century Fox will release the movie on February 18, 2011.
