‘Straw Dogs’ Soundtrack Details

Madison Gate Records will be releasing the soundtrack album for the thriller Straw Dogs. The album includes the score from the movie by composer Larry Groupé (The Contender, Commander in Chief). The soundtrack will be released on September 13, 2011, both digitally and as an on-demand CD-R on Amazon. To listen to audio clips from the album, check out the box below. Straw Dogs directed by Rod Lurie and starring James Marsden, Kate Bosworth, Alexander Skarsgård, Dominic Purcell, Laz Alonso, Willa Holland and James Woods is a remake of the 1971 Sam Peckinpah film. Harry Gregson-Williams is currently scoring Aardman Animations’ and Sony Pictures Animation’s upcoming feature Arthur Christmas. He is taking over scoring duties from Michael Giacchino and Adam Cohen who were originally attached to score the movie. Gregson-Williams has previously co-scored Aardman’s first full length feature Chicken Run with John Powell and was the principal composer on the company’s 2006 film Flushed Away. Arthur Christmas directed by Barry Cook (Mulan) centers on Arthur, the son of Santa and his ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. Sony Classical will be releasing the soundtrack for David Cronenberg’s new thriller A Dangerous Method. The album features the original score from the movie by composer Howard Shore, as well as Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll performed by Lang Lang. The soundtrack will be released in the UK on September 16, 2011. A release in the US is expected closer to the movie’s domestic opening in LA and New York on November 23. (UPDATE, November 2011): The album is now scheduled for a domestic release on November 21 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon A Dangerous Method starring Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley, Michael Fassbender and Vincent Cassell chronicles the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud and the birth of psychoanalyis. Some new details about the music for Jean-Jacques Annaud’s upcoming adventure movie Black Gold have surfaced today. As reported a few months ago, James Horner has written the score for the film. The music was recorded last month at Abbey Road Studios in London. The National is reporting that Quatari singer Fahad Al Kubaisi worked with Horner on the picture’s opening track, which is supposed to reflect the mood of the soldiers in the film as they prepare for war. He also recorded a traditional Bedouin song with Qatari composer Abdulla Al Mannai. Black Gold tells the story of the rivalry between two Emirs in Arabia in the 1930’s just as oil is being discovered. Read the rest of this entry »

The details for the soundtrack release of the upcoming drama Machine Gun Preacher have been revealed. Relativity Music Group is releasing the album on September 20, 2011. The soundtrack includes the movie’s original score by Asche & Spencer, as well as the original song The Keeper by Chris Cornell (visit our previous article for more information). Intrada Records has announced a new edition of the soundtrack for Joe Dante’s 1985 fantasy movie Explorers. The album marks the world premiere release of the film’s score composed by Jerry Goldsmith and includes more than half an hour of previously unreleased music. Also included on the soundtack is the track Space Movie by Alexander Courage. The album is available to order on Intrada’s website, where you can also listen to audio clips from the release. Explorers stars Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix as misfit best friends whose dreams of space travel become a reality when they create an interplanetary spacecraft in their homemade laboratory. Wendy & Lisa are scoring the upcoming NBC police procedural drama Prime Suspect. The show is based on the BBC series with the same title starring Helen Mirren. Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom) directed the pilot and is also executive producing the project. Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate Housewives) has written the pilot’s script and will also be producing the project. The series stars Maria Bello as as Jane Timoney, a female detective struggling to make her bones in a tough New York precinct dominated by men. Aidan Quinn, Kirk Acevedo, Joe Nieves and Brian O’Byrne. The show is produced by Universal Media Studio, for which the composer duo of Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman have previously scored such shows as Heroes, Bionic Woman and Mercy. Lakeshore Records will be releasing the official soundtrack album for the romantic comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It. The album includes one track from the score by composer Aaron Zigman, as well as several songs from the movie by such artists as Betty Everett, Damato, Little Jackie, Teena Marie, Nat King Cole and Holly Palmer. Alec Puro to Score ‘The First Time’

Alec Puro has signed on to score the upcoming romantic comedy The First Time. The movie is written and directed by Jon Kasdan (In the Land of the Women) and stars Britt Robertson, Dylan O’Brien, Victoria Justice, James Frecheville, Craig Roberts, Joshua Malina, Halston Sage, Maggie Jones and Adam Sevani . The film follows two students over the first weekend of a blossoming relationship. Liz Glotzer and Martin Shafer (The Mist, Friends with Benefits) are producing for Castle Rock Entertainment. Puro is coming off scoring two independent movies that opened this summer with The Art of Getting By and the Vera Farmiga-directed drama Higher Ground, which is currently playing in theaters in select cities. The First Time is currently in post production. No word yet on a release date for the movie.
