Alexandre Desplat has been tapped to score the upcoming drama Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. He is taking over scoring duties from composer Nico Muhly who was originally attached to the project with his name even credited on the film’s poster and in the first trailer. The movie is directed by Academy Award nominated director Stephen Daldry (The Hours, The Reader) and stars Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, newcomer Thomas Horn, John Goodman, Viola Davis, Jeffrey Wright and Max von Sydow. The film is based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer is adapted for the screen by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) and produced by Scott Rudin (The Social Network). The drama tells the story of a nine-year-old boy who searches New York for the lock that matches a mysterious key left by his father when he was killed in the September 11 attacks. Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend. Apart from Paranormal Activity 3, which is expected to top the weekend box office and doesn’t feature any original music, the following three movies are receiving a wide release:
The Three Musketeers directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz, Matthew MacFayden, Luke Evans, Mads Mikkelsen, Juno Temple and Ray Stevenson features music by Paul Haslinger. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as Take That’s end title song When We Were Young has been released earlier this week by Milan Records. Also opening wide is the action spoof Johnny English Reborn starring Oliver Parker and starring Rowan Atkinson, Rosamunde Pike, Dominic West and Gillian Anderson. The film’s score is written by Ilan Eshkeri. A soundtrack CD including the score will be released on November 1 by Varese Sarabande. The album is also already available digitally on iTunes. ‘My Week with Marilyn’ Soundtrack Announced

Sony Classical has announced a soundtrack release for the drama My Week with Marilyn. The album includes the original score by Conrad Pope. Alexandre Desplat has written Marilyn’s Theme for the film and pianist Lang Lang is performing on the score. Also featured on the album are several period songs by Nat King Cole, a medley of When Love Goes Wrong and Heat Wave, as well as the end title song That Old Black Magic performed by lead actress Michelle Williams. Audio clips are available after the jump. The album will be released digitally on November 1, 2011 on Amazon and iTunes and a physical release is planned for later in the month. David Sardy to Score ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’

David Sardy is scoring the superhero action sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The movie is directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer). Nicolas Cage returns as Johnny Blaze who lives in exile in Eastern Europe, where he is called upon to stop the devil, who is trying to take human form. Idris Elba, Violante Placido, Ciaran Hinds and Christopher Lambert are co-starring. Scott Gimple and Seth Hoffman (Flash Forward) have written the screenplay, which is based on a story by David Goyer (Batman Begins). Avi Arad (Spider-Man, Iron Man), Ari Arad, Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Moneyball) and Steven Paul are producing. Decca Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the documentary Senna. The album includes the original score by composer Antonio Pinto. Rolfe Kent has signed on to score the crime comedy Gambit. The movie is directed by Michael Hoffman and stars Colin Firth as a London art curator who enlists a Texas rodeo queen, played by Cameron Diaz, in a scheme to con the richest men of Canada. Stanley Tucci, Alan Richman, Cloris Leachman and Sir Tom Courtenay are co-starring. The screenplay for the remake of the 1966 film with the same title starring Michael Caine and Shirley McQueen is written by Joel and Ethan Coen. Nicholas Pike is the composer of the upcoming miniseries Bag of Bones. The project based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel is directed by Mick Garris who previously helmed the TV adaptations of The Stand and The Shining. The four-hour miniseries stars Pierce Brosnan as a man who is unable to stop grieving for his deceased wife. After returning to the lakeside retreat they shared, he inadvertently gets involved in a local custody battle – while having nightmares about his dead wife. L’R du Trésor has released a soundtrack album for the French social satire Polisse. The album features the original score by Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love), as well as four songs from the movie by Anne Germain, Breakbot, Keedz and Urban Species. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon and audio clips from each track can be checked out below. Polisse is directed by Maïwenn Le Besco who also stars in the film as a journalist working on a story about the lives of cops assigned to a Paris juvenile division.
